Interesting. I would like to know the geological history pf the place. Was this a result of one of the many great flood events from melting ice caps??

I'm not sure, Andy, I think that was more a Rocky Mountains and Plains states thing. Hey, I learned that stuff in high school geology, how am I supposed to remember it now! This particular place was the bottom of a Lower Klamath Lake, which was connected to the Klamath Lake I live neat. It was drained by the gov't for farmland. A few million years before that, said lake was even bigger and covered "the Great Basin." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Basin

Well, now it occurs to me that the mega-lake was caused by melting ice from the last Ice Age...doh!
