I've never heard of that one! Second to the Gravenstein, the pippin is best pie-apple there is. Anyway, that's my opinion. I lived a few years in Sebastopol, CA, the biggest Grav growing area in the US (though fewer orchards now). I'd love to smell that heavenly apple fragrance in the fall air, again, at harvest time. They are impossible to find in most of the country, though. I used to really load up on them, kept in the fridge for abut 3 months and I'd make lots of things with them. Much jucier than pippins or the ubiquitous Granny Smith.

The best apple pie is a Bramley.. again an English apple and known as the best cooker.

Cox's Orange Pippins like Bramleys have been around for ever.. but not in the USA. I miss those I grew up with.

I had to wade through totally unknown to me ones here ! (Same for potatoes !)

That must have been pure trial-and-error! Never heard of Bramley, of course, but sounds super. I see they're grown in British Columbia. One apple we have that I think is kind of worthless is the Red Delicious. They aren't delicious for eating and they can't be cooked, but it seems they're popular for some reason..
