Rabbit brush
Also called "rubber rabbit brush," because it contains a rubber-like substance that was used during WWII when there was a rubber shortage. There is no shortage of this pungent-smelling plant. It is seen all over the western USA and likes the same arid habitat as sage brush.

In this case it has grown much taller than usual, I suppose because the fence supports it.

It just might be the predominant native plant in Eastern Oregon. Usually, they are a low mound, like sage, but I guess this climbed the fence to reach the sunlight. Thank you, raingirl!

And it's right up there with ragweed as an allergen! I'm on loratadine (Claritin) from late summer thru fall because of it. It's just started blooming in a big way down our way.

Yes!!! We have loads of it here, too. Just when pollen all but disappears in late summer, this stuff takes off. I can't remember how long it blooms, I guess until frost. The plant is interesting when the fuzzy cloud-tops show, too.

I think ragweed is just starting, here. The older I get, the worse my allergies are. ;-(
