I don't know how they would get that way. There was a fire there a couple of years ago, but can't see how that would have anything to do with the carved look.

Santa has a lot to answer for...or do I mean Satan? Old age creeps on. I feel exactly like this chimney....interesting but impractical.

I know what you mean. Cracking at the seams, chunks falling off. It's awful.
