I don't know what the "King Size" is, maybe it's a Fanta Orange soda. Or, Nehi - wow, I can't believe I even remember that name.

Connoisseurs can manifest themselves with the upper note I left on the pic.

Hah! Yes, I know where it is, but it refers to the size of the bottle rather than the brand. Compared with the stubby Coke bottles of the time, this was probably a marketing ploy. ; )

Those were the days...................using glass bottles was "proper" recycling..........we used to have to pay a deposit which we got back on returning the empty bottle.

Oh, yes,that was our only access to extra money, besides 25 cents per week (!!) allowance, so they were real treasures. I explained the repeated use of the bottles to my grandchildren, how they had to be very thick for disinfecting and refilling, then became frosty and chipped from the machinery. They thought that was weird.

They didn't alter the taste. either, which cans and plastic bottles do. And most of the local brands have disappeared. Toronto still has Brio, but Wilson's and Pure Spring are long gone. The local brand where I grew up was Wishing Well; their bottles weighed about a pound. Great colours, too -- completely unnatural. They glowed in the dark. I still glow in the dark, too.

Oooh, John, you should have that looked at. Or, "seen to," as the Brits would say (and you might, as well). Right, I can't stand the plastic bottles, they taste awful and it's hard to get the ingredients ice-cold, which is how I like my soft drinks.

We collected Coke bottles in the 50's because of the name of the bottler that was stamped into the bottom. Getting a bottle from outside of Ga or Fla was considered to be quite a find!

Oh, really? I haven't heard of that nuance, but I can certainly understand it. Funny, the world was so much smaller and another state seemed like another country. (Well, that's still true, culturally speaking.) You always have such interesting comments, Don.

In my family in the 50's we were very limited in our travel. Just a trip to St. Augustine was a major outing, and it was only 30's miles away. So, finding a bottle with "Knoxville" stamped on the bottom was an indication of far away places. Two interesting links:

I know what you mean about family travel in the 50s. Very modest! Except for camping in the woods, which was free and didn't require a whole day (or more!) to get there. Kids nowadays (hahaha!) want the kind of entertainment from Mom and Dad that we couldn't even imagine. If we could, we wouldn't dare ask for it. "Hey, Dad, can you take us to Disneyland this summer?" HA!

I'm astounded by what Disneyland costs, and yet kids seem to expect to go.

A fortune! But, I don't think my grandchildren have even asked to go. I'm sure they know it exists. Really, I wish I could afford to take them.
