Well, that is the culture of small business...

Yes! The same locations are recycled over and over again! They don't start with enough operating capital to tide them over until they have a following of customers. Or, they open in a low-traffic area.

So many go into business because they loved a restaurant or bookstore they used to like, without any real understanding of the actual procedures needed to run a business and the actual costs.

Pardon, but a great chance to get on my soap box -- this whole 'sharing economy' stuff falls right in with what I just wrote. All these people that think they can just make a little money driving for Uber or renting a house through Airbnb, without thinking about the actual costs of keeping up equipment or of setting aside enough money for their health insurance and a little vacation time. It's going back to the rip off times of 'piece work'....
