➽ When the Hotel tower (engl.) was to be built, many citizens were against it! Today it's one of the many landmarks of Augsburg and is affectionately called as "Corn cob-Tower"! ____________________________________ ➽ Als der Hotelturm gebaut werden sollte, waren viele Bürger dagegen! ➽ The Wittelsbacher Park is one of the largest green areas of Augsburg. It's 18 hectares and since March 1980 conservation area. The total area of the reserve is 20.8 hectares. It's popular because of the beauty and diversity of its trees. It also has several large open spaces and a small and a large children's playground. A 15-meter-high sledding hill closes to the park in the south-west. At the north-eastern access is a small artificial lake with terrace and a beer garden. ➽ 春日灯籠 (Kasugatōrō = jap. Steinlaterne) im Wittelsbacher Park (PiP) . Im Park integriert ist ein, 1957 angelegter, japanischer Steingarten. Er trägt den Namen „Rudolf-Diesel-Gedächtnishain“, zum Gedenken an den Augsburger Rudolf Diesel und seine Erfindung des Dieselmotors im Jahr 1897. Er ist etwa 1.000 Quadratmeter groß und von Hecken umgeben. Die Grünfläche wurde mit großen, bis zu zwei Meter hohen Felsblöcken gestaltet, die dazu vom japanischen Fluss Inagawa nach Augsburg transportiert wurden. Gestiftet hat den Hain Magokichi Yamaoka, der Gründer der Yanmar-Diesel-Werke , die in den japanischen Städten Amagasaki und Nagahama Dieselmotoren produzierten. Yamaoka setzte sich auch dafür ein, dass die beiden Städte 1959 zu Partnerstädten Augsburgs wurden und somit die ersten deutsch-japanischen Städtepartnerschaften. It bears the name "Rudolf-Diesel-memorial grove" to commemorate the Augsburger Rudolf Diesel (engl.) and his invention of the Diesel engine in 1897. It's about 1,000 square meters and surrounded by hedges. The green space was designed with large, up to two meters high boulders which were transported to Augsburg from the Japanese Inagawa river. The grove was donated by Magokichi Yamaoka, founder of the Yanmar Diesel Limited which produced Diesel engines in the Japanese cities of Amagasaki and Nagahama.
