➽ 4. Dezember: Barbaratag ❀ ❀ ❀ Je nach Gegend und Brauchtum werden Kirsch-, Apfel-, Birken-, Haselnuss-, Rosskastanien-, Pflaumen-, Holunder-, Rotdorn- oder Forsythienzweige verwendet. Sie sollen bis zum Heiligen Abend blühen und in der kalten und düsteren Winterzeit zum Weihnachtsfest Schmuck in die Wohnung bringen. Der Brauch geht auf die Legende von der Heiligen Barbara zurück, nach der sie auf dem Weg in das Gefängnis mit ihrem Gewand an einem Zweig hängenblieb. Sie stellte den abgebrochenen Zweig in ein Gefäß mit Wasser und er blühte genau an dem Tag, an dem sie zum Tode verurteilt wurde. Nach regionalem Volksglauben bringt das Aufblühen der Barbarazweige Glück im kommenden Jahr. Teilweise ist es Brauch, dass die jungen Mädchen jedem einzelnen Zweig den Namen eines Verehrers zuweisen. Der Zweig, der zuerst blüht, soll auf den zukünftigen Bräutigam hinweisen. They should bloom until Christmas Eve and bring Christmas decorations in the cold and gloomy winter time. The custom goes back to the legend of Saint Barbara , according to this she got stuck on the way to the prison with her garb clinging to a branch. She put the broken branch in a vessel with water and it flourished on the very day on which she was sentenced to death. After regional folk belief the blossoming of the Barborky brings good luck in the coming year. Partly it's the custom that the young girls assign the name of a suitor to any branch. Zur Zeit der Weimarer Republik plante man hier das Zentralkrankenhaus von Augsburg zu bauen. Diesen Plänen stand aber die nationalsozialistische Aufrüstungspolitik im Weg. Das Gelände wurde für den Bau von Kasernen verwendet. Von 1945 bis 1998 wurde die Kaserne von der U.S. Armee genutzt. ______________ ➽ Sheridan Park is a new city district in the west of Augsburg, which is on the site of the former American Sheridan barracks. The motto of the Sheridan Park is "living, working, feeling good". ➽ Even before the Second World War the area of Sheridan barracks was used for agriculture. During the Weimar Republic the Central Hospital of Augsburg was planed on this area. These plans however were a hindrance to the Nazi rearmament policy. The site was used for the construction of barracks. From 1945 to 1998, the U.S. Army used the site of the Wehrmacht barracks.
