Crawton Cliffs detail
Guillemots by the thousands. They thrive on jellyfish. A city for birds here, here and all around here at the Fowlsheugh Nature reserve for a few hundred metres. These share the cliffs with their razorbill cousins (both part of the Auk family) and gulls. At times this is also the home to many of our puffins..

In excess of 170,000 birds inhabit Fowlsheugh at the peak breeding season between April and late July. This value places Fowlsheugh as the second largest seabird colony in Britain

Not only was it noisy Nick, it was also very smelly at some spots. Smelling of fish! Glad you liked this.

Indeed they do Eva. They make a small nest and usually have only one egg. As can be seen here they live in tightly packed colonies on perilous ledges, clifftops and rocky outcrops around the coast.

When the birds were in flight it would be a great scene. As it was, many were flying around too.

Apparently they love them and at certain times of the year big shoals of them get caught here at the cliffs. Glad you liked this.
