Milky Way Bow over the Yorkshire Dales

Milky Way Bow over the Yorkshire Dales
Taken just outside the town of Richmond. My first bow! Not too sure if the white line is an aeroplane or 'shooting star. A dark night but the lights of Richmond town shown on here too.

A big thanks to my photo mate Steve Paxton for his help and tips in producing this.

Herb the white line is no plane more a satellite by the look. this is but step one its where you go from here that is the question. it sure is a Bow and the milky way. it a pleasure to help and start the learning process. in fact this has about 5 large light sources but you can get a Bow even in England.

Ah, my mentor speaks. yes, this prove that Milky Way bows are possible here too. Not so very easy near my home in Greater Manchester as there are far too many city lights but with a little bit of travel, well here are the results. A meteor shower was still in force during this week and so it might well have been a meteor which I saw one for sure, like a firework heading for our earth. A lot if light sources on here which may have gone if only I could have been awake anther three hours! Thanks again my star friend from down under.

Beautiful, Herb. Here it's not possible to see the Milky Way, even if we are in a narrow valley. I think too much light.

Hi Danni, again its great to see you here with your heart-felt comments. I understand what you mean with your high mountains obscuring most of the Milky Way for you. I an sure some of it would be visible when you have clear nights but to capture that - I well know the difficulties. This was done with nine vertical pictures stitched together to make a panorama.

Füsun, nice to see your real name at last and delighted that you too enjoy this photo which is a new venture for me. (I needed a lot of help from Steve Paxton -above to re-create it though.)

Hi Herb,

Great technical skill as ever! It is very rare to see this kind of thing in England, never mind photograph it. I am very impressed!!

I've tried sky shots, and seen meteors, but they are never bright enough to register on the image sensor. Satellites go much slower across the sky, but I will keep an open mind on your streak!

Good to see you here Peter and my apologise for this late reply. Like you I have not seem very many Milky Way shots from here but there are some, especially from people living in our dark sky spots such as the very NE England and many parts of Scotland. This was taken with my very wide 10mm lens and consist of about 10 portrait photos stitched together. Each exposure was for 10 full seconds with another 10-20secs camera noise reduction time thrown in. This final stitch was done with the software: PTGui. I thought the streak to more likely an aeroplane but my friend Steve (above) thinks a satellite.
