Hi Wally. Yes, this ended up very well indeed. My Nikon 7100 and Nikon AF-S 55-300, 4.5-5.6 GED worked well here. That unfortunately is not always the case. Its good, well stopped down and at a high shutter speeds but I must also remind myself that I am shooting at a 35mm equivalent of 450mm and that is some zoom. The inbuilt VR certainly gives you a couple of stops to play with too. Funny enough I often feel that I might be better off with Canon stuff as I used to do Canon 35mm and even have a Canon pocket camera. Afraid I don't know the Tamron 18-300. Glad that you like this Steve. Yes at 300mm (450) and from some distance away the sea is perfectly out-of-focus but not too much perhaps. Took a lot of these critters on this day.

Thanks Doug. I shall never call that lens again. - When I first bought it, I also bought what I thought was a good UV filter too. I placed it on and then took the traditional test card shots. Big mistake! I nearly threw the lens away as the results were so bad, only to find out much later that it was the filter that was at fault. Moral there somewhere! Regards, Herb
