Southern Cross

Southern Cross
These shot where taken last night after a few night trying to find the Octans to no avail . you can see them in a shot but are not visible to the eye. I set up south plus magnetic deviation and set latitude. This is made up of 44 shot ISO 5000 20 sec F4.5 with a 3 second shutter delay 160mm 70-200 F4 . this is stacked in Deep Sky Stacker with the back shots of 200 dark frames , 200 light Frames and 200 Bias frames.

As I am a true beginner here I have tried to edit to what I saw on the net as I have no idea at all. A night and a days work . Enjoy a true Southern view the cross is laying on its side. the Black just below and right is the Head Of the Emu in the milky way.

great Steve I really enjoy the southern view of the Southern Cross. I do not see any tracking errors. brilliant.

You know we see this all the time in the sky but must say first time this close. errors creep in 30 sec or longer and so far stacking more than 60 shots together. I am trying to find the limits with shooting like this so i know what I can and cant do.

I have been to the Southern hemisphere a few times but I never managed to see the Southern Cross without someone pointing it out to me. A sensational photo!

A great result, well justifying all the effort, Steve. The Jewel Box cluster (NGC4755) also shows well to the SE of the Cross.

Thank you George one of the things to try out the 150-600 on The Jewel Box cluster (NGC4755) and I now know where to find it. The laser pointer makes it easy to see the star you want to take one of the best finds and ideas. its hard work looking through the view finder to see them the laser stands out in live view big time. two shot set up after that.

I took this last as I was packing up to see just what it would look like close up rather than the 14mm shot all the time. even the Emu's head a beak Bottom Right looks very different to what I would have thought. Glad you like the shot.

As I have never crossed the equator, I have never seen the Southern Cross, so thank you for sharing!!

Thank you Peter In this field I am still learning to walk. It was kind of why I posted these stars as not many are from the southern hemisphere so be very new to most. even in the city lights these shine bright over the city pollution and are totally unmistakable. I hope to bring a bit more of our skies alive for those interested.

next month I want to spend time on Orion and the 4 nebula's. I am in Ko shadow here I dont have a telescope just a camera.
