Reed (Phragmites)

Building material. Reed is actually grown on farms in northern Europe for the purpose of harvesting it for roofing that lasts 50 years, completely maintenance free. We are always trying to get rid of it. Did you know that the tubers are a potato substitute and very nourishing? Why could we not find a way to use the tubers for a type of snack, then we wouldn't have to use weedkiller or have to burn reed (Phragmites)?
