This symbolizes that the outfit was worn by miners, called 'Steiger'. Each region had their own outfits and each mine had a choir. To this day these choirs are very popular in the southeastern parts of Germany, mainly in the Erzgebirge (Iron Mountains).

Thank you for your comment, neira-Dan. The smoke man will not burn, there is a metal plate on the inside holding the incense cone.

Obwohl ich ja in Hamburg aufgewachsen bin und es dort keine Raeuchermaennchen gab, kannte ich sie doch durch meinen Vater, der aus dem Sudetenland stammte. Diese Figur ist fuer mich ein besonderes Geschenk, weil mein Cousin sie geschickt hat und er lebt in Chemnitz.
