Why they're called wood ducks

Why they're called wood ducks
I saw a pair of wood ducks "land" on the far corner of the pond. I watched for a long time, expecting them to appear on the open water. Walking into the forest on the other side of the pond, I heard their voices among the trees. The forest is rather dense, so I was able to get only a few photos of them.

Danke schön, Ingrid. Noch schwieriger wird es, wenn die Bäume alle Blätter haben.

This is the only common species here that perches in trees. There are also a couple of species of whistling-ducks that live a little further south.

What a cute shot. I've never seen one in a tree. Their name does suit them. :)
