It must be a very difficult job to keep track of what happens in the rookery. Someone is always trying to steal your prime nesting spot.

A strange beauty. There are many of these north of town where there is a big Angus ranch. I've never seen an egret up close!

Keep trying. I didn't know they had expanded their range so far. They've only been here in Mississippi a few decades.

Oh, I assumed they've been everywhere, forever. I suppose the only way I'll see a cattle egret up close is if I jump a barbed wire fence and run into the proximity of a herd of gigantic Angus.

Not worth the trouble convincing the steers, I think. Here is a bit from wikipedia: "Originally native to parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe, it has undergone a rapid expansion in its distribution and successfully colonised much of the rest of the world in the last century."
