What a perfect setting for them.

We used to have some nesting in our barn when we had horses but once the horses were gone they birds left too. I'm not sure why.

My guess would be the horses attracted insects that the swallows ate. Here, I see the swallows flying above the pond and catching insects. It is a short commute for them.

Yes, I had to be patient and lucky. I rarely saw both birds at the same time, and they would enter the hole within a few seconds after it alit on the tree.
