It is Pontederia cordata or pickerelweed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontederia_cordata I bought two plants (white and purple flowers) in pots from a nursery about 20 years ago. Now they surround our big pond. This morning Garip chased a muskrat from within these plants at one side of the pond, and the muskrat swam to the plants at the other side.
