HWW from Laura's Towers at Shrewsbury Castle

The tower was built as a folly by Thomas Telford c. 1790 for Laura, the daughter of Sir William Pulteney as a summer house. The walls of Laura's tower are built of sandstone which has varying degrees of hardness, so it's possible to see erratic weathering of the stone.

Crocus in the snow
|
|
|
|
We had about 6 inches of snow the day before, and already it was starting to melt, but the local secondary school closed because of the large catchment area, so some of the pupils had a great day in the village. The primary school didn't close because most of the children and staff are fairly local.

Tough enough to resist the snowfall. It's now raining, so the snow will soon be gone, and we'll be back to grey days.

We had some snow yesterday, and here you can see the grey sheep, and the excited and shrieking children having just been let loose from the classroom into their games field. There are lots of fences when you look carefully.
This morning at 06.00 it was pouring with snow, and the unusually sparse traffic through the village was keeping to the 20 mph. Some idiots like to leave the "look how much snow we've had" on their cars. One driver had a small opening in the windscreen and the side windows and back screen were covered in snow, The back lights weren't visible either. What a fool.
It has stopped snowing now, 08.23, and no doubt it will all disappear soon. It certainly brightens up a dull day. Tonight we'll have our fire lit again.

A Young Swan Preening.

Watching this immature mute swan preening was so lovely. He was approached by a mature swan, which was finally chased off by another mature pair. We weren't sure about the relationship between them all.
