Coot chicks

Baby coots look like little clowns The front half of the coot’s body is covered in orange-tipped plumes, giving them a jarring appearance. We’re not used to seeing baby birds covered bright feathers. While this orange fades rather quickly—in about six days—it still leaves them conspicuous when they are at the most vulnerable stage of their lives.

TSC. THE SYMBOLS OF EASTER. We're looking for eggs, rabbits/hares, Easter bonnets, hot cross buns, fish, palms etc.. Painting a small brown egg using water colours proved to be quite difficult. It started of as daffodils and a chick, which was unsuccessful. After various colour changes it ended up as dribbles of blue and white paint. The finished egg was put back into a saucepan of water where it floated, then the paint started to float away. Eat your heart out Fabergé. ;-) Eggs were a traditional symbol of fertility and rebirth. The oldest tradition is to use dyed and painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs wrapped in colourful foil, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as chocolate.

English bluebell. Hyacinthoides non-scripta

14 Apr 2017 30 21 1065
TODAY'S NEWS: www.ipernity.com/doc/serola/44631306/in/activity In the United Kingdom, H. non-scripta is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Landowners are prohibited from removing common bluebells on their land for sale and it is a criminal offence to remove the bulbs of wild common bluebells. This legislation was strengthened in 1998 under Schedule 8 of the Act making any trade in wild common bluebell bulbs or seeds an offence, punishable by fines of up to £5,000 per bulb. The species is not protected in the Republic of Ireland. Unfortunately a related species, H. hispanica has also been introduced to the British Isles and hybridises with H. non-scripta to produce intermediates known as H. × massartiana. H.hispanica is commonly found in gardens and is sold in garden centres as H.non-scripta, and hybridisation may result in the disappearance of the pure species.

Tyntesfield House and Chapel

Latest news: www.ipernity.com/doc/serola/44613266 This wonderful property, now owned by the National Trust, was purchased in 1843 by the Gibbs family, who made a fortune in the family business, Antony Gibbs & Sons. From 1847 the firm had an effective monopoly in the import and marketing to Europe and North America of guano from Peru as a fertilizer. This was mined by indentured Chinese labour on the Chincha Islands in conditions which the Peruvian government acknowledged in 1856 had degenerated "into a kind of Negro slave trade". The firm's profits from this trade were such that William Gibbs became the richest non-noble man in England.
