Simple yet delightful. A few years ago, where I now live, the fields would have been bursting with poppies. But the farm changed hands and the new farmer is, understably, wanting to make some profit from his land and a poppy field means a spoiled grain field. So sadly one year they were all gone!

I recently posted an old pic of a local poppy field. At this time of year they should be visible from our house all around. I'm going to go for a walk specifically to see if any vestige remains but I don't hold out high hopes. The herbicides are strong (and how they don't harm the grain crop I don't know. Suspicious I think!)
