MC Aston lock 2 balance beam

A balance beam is the long arm projecting from the landward side of the gate over the towpath. As well as providing leverage to open and close the heavy gate, the beam also balances the (non-floating) weight of the gate in its socket, and so allows the gate to swing more freely.

There are definitely some glitches today, George. People's buddy icons are disappearing and re-appearing, and some thumbnails are not showing, including yours. Mine seem to be all back now - but for how long I wonder.

Your buddy icon is back, Gudrum, but some are still missing, and there are still quite a few glitches. The Ipernity team said yesterday that it would all be sorted out in 48 hours. They have 24 hours left now .....
