Hm, i understand the logic behind the "Contact"-Stream and why it's shown then under "my" profile. But nevertheless this "under my profile" can be irritating at first (see Nadines comment), because it breaks the already learned logic "Looking pictures of contacts is switching to their respective profile".

OK, i think, it's a question of habituation, hopefully. Because on the other hand, switching through new pictures of all my different contacts just by arrow keys and instantly having the possibility to star and comment them is the really great advantage of this solution, and i think, i will like this, because it avoids lots of constantly going back and forth again through different contacts and the overview.

Played around with it and must say: i like it very much, after some acclimatization. The combination of the two thumbnailsliders with the first one for choosing the contact and the second one for browsing more pictures of that one contact without loosing the overview-slider above is quite handy.

So: thanks, this is a good feature, after some time for getting used to it :-D

Why do I see in the section "Your Contacts. What's new" pictures I've already seen? I only what to see there pictures that are realy new!

I probably overlook something - but where can I find an overview who's in my 'family' or 'friends' group, now? Because I just wanted to do this and now there are just lots of pictures...

You can access the Family / Friends / Acquaintances views from the left menu.

Yes, I know... But I'd like to see in one go who are my 'friends' and who's my 'family'. I just get a lot of unsorted pictures now. Before your changes I had a clear overview who's in which category. Would be nice if this option could be kept somehow. (Or is it somewhere else, now?)

why do we need number 4?
Ok,if it must be there,isnt it logical to be under?,before we clicked on our friends photos and on the right we could see more of his uploads,so simple and nice,now it changed places.

Previously, you should go back to your news page to go to the next contact.

I was one of the 'lots of people that wanted this' #4 as are a few above this comment. I am not a fan of the square format but hey it works and that is what matters.

Well iam one of the few who likes simple things,just a place with white background for my photos,iam glad you like this change cause it was made for you.

don't be snotty... this is something people have asked for and ipernity is trying to please everyone.. just be thankful for that! At least they try.
I never said I was overjoyed with the changes I said I like the new way to go through my contacts new uploads and that I was one of the many that wanted that feature.

I'm not a big fan of the large square thumbnails; I'd prefer to see smaller images and the whole image instead of the square format. Too much scrolling when I click to see more new photos from the contacts. The main issue for me is that everything is forced into a square format, it's very ugly. In short, I liked the way it was.

Please make the thumbnails in the "your contacts: what's new"-section smaller, or give us the choice to switch to a smaller version. I'd like to see the original format of the pictures instead of square thumbnails as well. Thank you.

these are not 'unwanted and/or surprise' changes... months ago ipernity said they were working on this... I am very happy to see it. I can't say I like the large square format but if it works then so be it.

So, Ipernity, what you're saying with these "new" improvements is that this is as good as it can get and it won't ever need "improved" again? Just leave things alone already. They worked and we could work with the way it was.

Because now my contact's photos are big, but all the other sections with photos are still small. They were good when they were all small because it didn't take as long to scroll through them to get to the lower sections.

Tell you what - Just make our page totally customizable by us and we can set it up however we want. Not how you want it to be, whether it works for us or not.

That has been suggested way back in time. Those that must be obeyed declared that the main layout should be uniform, Avitar top right followed by user details etc, and Left hand column as is sort of. Main body design is up to a point our choice but with a Glaring white background that hurts the eyes. It would be nice if we could select at least a Pastel colour to replace it. Perhaps we should also be permitted to decide which "News" sections we the individuals require/desire.

And where is the button "view on black" ?

It seems to work OK but as many mention in the thread up to now there is room for improvement to reduce the amount of scrolling needed now.

I'm not a fan of the bigger thumbnails myself, but will get used to it --- it would be nice to to have the ability to choose which size thumbnails we'd like. The scroll strip with tiny thumbnails which is supposed to eliminate the need to go back and forth to see contacts' newest uploads is a great idea, but those thumbnails are likely too small for many folks' eyes to really see enough of the image to know whether they want to view it larger or not.

I do applaud the efforts to improve the site, though. I'm sorry former Flickr members keep throwing that site in your faces every time they don't like something -- and every little thing seems to set these people off, too... It really isn't fair to you. This site is nothing like Flickr and is far better managed with staff who actually respond to problems and member concerns. I came from Flickr myself (after 7 yrs. of paid membership) and like this site a lot better --- it isn't perfect, but it's by far the most functional and least taxing on bandwidth. So, thank you again for your efforts.

That said, I'd still like to see contacts' new photos sorted more effectively. New shots are still not showing up where they should. Could you make it so the sort engine goes by date uploaded? I'm not sure what sorting method is used now --- I'm guessing creation date --- but it just isn't doing the sorting by newest content in most cases.

I like this improvement because I haven't to open a new tab for each contact just to be sure you will be at the same point as you were before you click at a contactphoto.
This saves much time and at least clicks .... because you're able to view both things at the same time... new uploads by all and by a specific member, something I had missed always.

I have a question: When I click in the preview on a Photo of a friend, it will open, but I cannot look it in fullscreen and on black? Why I have to make a detour and have to click extra the side of my friend, to look the photo in Fullscreen and on black? Why have you changed this point of use.

holy cow you guys... these changes are things people have been asking for... it really is time to get over flickr for gawd's sake! ipernity tries to please everyone and do what we ask...
I remember a change a bit ago that everyone squawked about and within 24 hours it was gone..

there is 3 or 4 people on the ipernity team and they do a damn good job as far as I am concerned.. they listen, they change, they fix, they solve the problems.. can you say that about the other site? I think NOT!

One area is no longer as useful as it was.

"They have visited you"

Headshots still appear but not because these people have visited and replied or commented, No, but because they have uploaded new photos etc.

I think I may've found a bug in the new format for showing contacts' new photos.... Unlike before the change, I'm seeing contacts PRIVATE photos showing up on the list. They're not clickable -- lead to a page stating the photo isn't visible to me (or something to that effect). This wasn't happening with private content prior to the changes made.

Posted here instead of just opening a case for the issue because I'm not 100% sure it's a bug. Gives others a chance to weigh in.

that happened to me a few weeks ago.. one of my contacts had a private photo, but I could see the thumbnail... when clicked i got the access denied message.. there were a few glitches that day but then it all stopped.

Hmmm.... I see that the few shots I was seeing, but unable to click on, have disappeared. So, I guess problem solved ;)

I'm another not in favour of the large square cropped thumbnails. As others have said, many of us take great care to think about how we compose and crop our images and to them 'force' them into little squares gives a false impression of how the shot has really been created and formatted.

The system as it is actually manages to make some great photographers work look pretty bad, which can't be seen as an improvement.

In my opinion, the large thumbnails also discourage people from clicking though to a particular person's stream, mean you have make many more clicks than you would were they smaller, and results in much more scrolling than was the case previously.

I like to visit my friends pages to see what they may have added as after all people do share more than photos.

If you want to improve Ipernity you should take your inspiration in how Woophy was working, this was far from perfection but better than how Ipernity is working. I'm not on Flickr and I don't want that Ipernity looks like Flickr.

Ipernity: if you are in desperate need to display a flock of images in a new way - as it seems you are - please create a tapestry: remove all space from between the images. Just keep the line height constant and image size ratios intact. Align each line to the left and pad the right edge with a coloured rectangle to keep it all in a clean block. Then add a mouse-over, which pops-up the image twice the size with credentials. That might - or might not - work.

I would vote for the option of having the smaller thumbnails back of your contact's recent photos posted. That would be very nice. The large square photos are a bit overwhelming to me and don't make me want to look further because I've already seen the photo. Thank you.

I rather like this new thing... it's great to go from one contact to another and the strip below to visit their stream... I love that option... however like the others.. not a fan of those big square 'thumbnails'

What happened to the number of views info? ........ ... no need for the larger thumbnails either

After spending some time trying the new features, I must say that I like them a lot! It has greatly enhanced my ability to follow my contacts. I even like the bigger thumbnails as it brings my attention to photos I may have ordinarily missed using the smaller thumbnails. It actually encourages me to go look at my contacts' pages!

Because of the two different ways of browsing (#4 &#5) I don't have to backtrack, which is what we had to do before. I also like that the feature tells you what time your contacts last submitted photos; very helpful!

There may be things on "the other place" to like, but there are quite a bit more things on ipernity to like! Do those of you who left Flickr remember why you left?

I think if everyone has a chance to get accustomed to these changes, they will feel as I do about them. Please remember, folks, nothing will please everyone at the same time. Unfortunately, no photo sharing site is perfect, but ipernity has a team that tries very hard to listen and accommodate to its users.

Yes, Ipernity, where is the 'view on black' setting? I can still use this for my own photos but not for other members! Scrolling back on comments I see that a couple of other members have already asked this--with no reply.

If you click on a photo (your own, or someone else's) to see the large view and then click on the photo again it will go to the "view on black" screen.

As mentioned earlier it would be nice if "They have visited you" was as it was before the "Improvements", but no, head shots in that frame now may mean they did visit, but it seems more often to mean "They have posted something new that I have access to."

Lots of redundant material in these "enhancements and browsing facilities..."

1. On the News page, we see all we need to see in the section In a flash, in particular what's new about our contacts.
2. Then, when we go to the Your contacts section, we get to see again what we saw in the section In a flash.
3. And finally, when we go to, e.g., the Acquaintances section, we see again what we saw in the two previous section!

I fail to see all this as enhancements, and how all this facilitates our browsing...

I'm starting to worry :(

most of this is great. but please either go back to non-square format of thumbs (unless the original is square) or at least give us the option to see the full photo in a thumb size. the reason i don't like the square thumb is that it makes it hard to decide if i want to see the full image or not.

We are going to make some adjustments ([1] to [4] refer to the screenshots above) :

- [1] square thumbs were not a good idea and will be replaced by regular thumbs (as before)

- the "lightbox view" button will go back on photo pages and will show the current contact's photos.

- [4] the photo owner's name will be displayed if you drag your mouse onto a thumbnail)

- [2] those pages will be totally revamped. No more square thumbnails. Each type of content (latest photos, albums, articles) will have its own tab. It means all the latest photos will be displayed on a full page without need of clicking to get more content.

- There is no ideal solution, we'll keep the chronological order of 1 new photo max per user and per day because we consider it's the most practical to read. For the moment and for technical reasons, we cannot extend to 5 new photos max per user as some of you ask.

- Because "acquaintances" is a subset of "contacts", it's normal that you'll find content from acquaintances in the contacts pages.

It would be a great solution if one could have the option 'newest photos of my contacts' and something like 'overview of my contacts' (where I can see who my contacts / friends / family are and when someone has posted something even if he / she posted his/her last photo two weeks ago). People who don't post every day are more or less invisible if I don't scroll down ... and down... and down... (and for this the large-size thumbnails aren't helpful at all).

1. In a Flash. Eliminate everything except They have visited you, Who's online, the ipernity announcement, and Do you know them. Everything else is superfluous. Your contacts: what's new, Your contacts: last albums, and Your contacts: new articles can be seen in the sections Friends, Family, and Acquaintances. Explore: current popular photos could be accessed through a new link in the left column of the "News" page; for example, under the link to Your Groups. And finally, do we really need Your photos: the last added?

2. Your Space.

3. Following Your Comments.

4. Your Contacts. [Only as a header; no need to link this to anything; the links below would be enough.]
-- Family
-- Friends
-- Acquaintances

5. Your Groups.

Yes, there is already a link to Explore on the top of the page, but it doesn't show the latest addition to Explore. That's why I was suggesting to put a link to that in the left column of the "News" page.

And yes, I also find superfluous the section Your photos: the last added. We are capable—I think—of knowing what are the last photos we added without ipernity telling us :))

Items 4 and 5 are a huge improvement for those of us who want to browse through our contacts' photos. One per contact in the upper "filmstrip", in reverse chronological order works perfectly for this, and the two work great together. Thank you, this addresses a real need. Now we don't need to have multiple tabs or keep going back to our news page.

Reading through the comments, I see that most of the complaints are about the thumbnails and the format of the news page, and I also see that Team Ipernity is listening and responding.

Team IP: could you please change the (Dutch) text 'Volgen jouw reacties' into 'Jouw reacties volgen'.
