Here is a suggestion for an alternative to the Googel translator:
www.deepl.com/translator
it is a bit more complicated to use, since you have to work with copy and paste, but the results are better than with Google and Co.

I'm using Opera browser and this plugin:
addons.opera.com/fi/extensions/details/translator

It gives relative easy way to change the translation database.

Tried your link above However it would not work The message I got was "You have no permission to use this Extension. Probably it is my browser which is Google Chrome. Otherwise I dont know the problem

I believe it has something to do with proxy servers. On some pages that were frequently used the pages and contents are probably still accessible on proxy servers, and that includes the translations.

Thanks for the update though for me at least it's one of those statements that seems to raise yet more questions especially the bit that says the loss of service is because "the IP SA judicial procedure blocked payments for the service".

I thought that the IMA now not only had both control and ownership of the platform, but that it would, as a result, be paying all associated bills?

Does this mean that IP SA still has some ownership of ipernity and that they are still responsible for paying certain bills? And, regardless, what is this legal procedure you refer to and what other implications might there be for the both the IMA and users of the site as we move forward?

Good questions It will be interesting to see the reply. How can IP Sa Still have any input on what performs and does not perform on the IMA site when apparently they do not have control on this site anymore

Sorry for belated reply. IMA does control ipernity. It was more like an invoice sent to wrong billing address. Now it is taken care of and Google services are working again.

Translation works again, and it does work for all users. Whoever claimed otherwise is not right about it.

You can do the following test. Visit ipernity without login, and try the translation feature. It works also to visitors.

Sami, I'm not sure if there's some confusion creeping in here because people are using different languages, but I think the point Hurst John was making is that the translation of articles is only available to Club members and in that sense he is right.

I don't know if that was always the case, but it is the certainly case now. The translation of comments works for all users and visitors, but not the translation of articles.

Thank you Paul. That I didn't test. I find it somewhat strange, and maybe it should be fixed in the future.

Tested also this with a free account, and translation seems to work also for article posts themselves.

I understood the issue is a missing "translate this" link on the news article itself.

I guess it is missing because the article was submitted when the problem was not yet fixed.

Correction for my earlier observation. The translate link does appear on the bottom of article. I just didn't realize it only appears if the web site language is something else than what is recognized as a language used on the article.

I did this. I changed language from my preferred English to French, and the translation link appeared for this article just as it is supposed to.

Thank you, Gerrit Fischer, for your link to the DeepL translator. I compared it side by side with Google translate and it does seem to translate a little better than Google. It is no problem for me to cut and paste since I had to do that anyway on Flickr. Now I have 2 translators to choose from! :-)

It works for me, various languages to portuguese. Not always very understable for a translation, specially from german or dutch to portuguese...

I know you're probably asking for member consensus, or whether anyone is still having an issue. As for my voice in the consensus, it was fixed about 19 hours ago. I tested it then, and found the translator was functioning well.

I just tried to translate your article "If the worst happens..." (Dec. 16) form English to German.
It works! Therefore I can't simulate the problem. May you give me an example please, where the translation of an article doesn't work?

Try this one Bernhard, but remember the point I was making in support of Hurst John was that if you a visitor to the site or a signed in user, but one who doesn't have Club membership then you can't translate articles:

tatsächlich! Ich kann den verlinkten Text auch nicht übersetzen, obwohl Gerrit und ich beide Club-Mitglieder sind. Es könnte aber sein, dass Gerrit sein Club-Abo erst nach dem Hochladen des Textes aktiviert hat und die Translator-Funktion deshalb nicht mit dem Beitrag verknüpft wurde.
Vielleicht solltest Du Gerrit Fischer mal ansprechen, ob er den Text bitte nochmal editiert (ein zusätzliches Leerzeichen am Schluss genügt) und erneut abspeichert. (Bei unserem ima-Text hat das geholfen.) Wenn es danach funktioniert, bestätigt sich Dein Verdacht, dass die Funktion für nicht zahlende Mitglieder eingeschränkt ist. In dem Fall ist das aber ein altes Feature von Ipernity, bzw. ein uralter Bug. Aktuell wurde am Code nämlich nichts verändert, außer dass die Google-Rechnung für den Translator bezahl wurde.

Dass nicht-Club-Mitglieder die Übersetzungsfunktion nicht nutzen können, war tatsächich schon immer so!

Ich kann dazu nichts sagen, weil ich vor anderthalb Jahren gleich als Club-Mitglied eingetreten bin. Aber ich halte es persönlich auch für angemessen, dass Club-Mitglieder einen gewissen Vorteil gegenüber den Free Members haben. Sie kommen ja schließlich allein für die gesamten Betriebskosten auf.

I'm still having translating issues. I type in english and different words appear when the post is made. As though its translating from english to english but getting it slightly wrong. I attempted to leave 3 comments on the latest newsflasjh but had to delete them all as they bore little relation to what I was typing- on here now it seems to be working perfectly though -very odd all round

I just posrted again on the news flash and it has gone on correctly this time -so it sems to be ok now.
