Well Mandi arrived last night or should I say early this morning?!!! It was close on 5am by the time she came in. My neighbours had been brilliant and gone to pick her up from the airport, which is just over 100 miles away, and her plane didn't land until just after 2am!!! I can't thank them enough for going for her, and bringing her safely to me. Well we both had a lie-in and had only been up a couple of hours when Emily arrived!! Those two got on so well and soon we were all chatting and laughing!!
After Emily had changed my bedlinen, she proceeded to go and cut my grass - apparently she enjoys doing it, because Mandi had said that she would do it, but Emily insisted that she did it. So soon she was walking up and down my lawn and within ten minutes it was all cut and looking great.
The temperatures have dropped severely tonight and apparently we can expect frost!!!! For heaven's sake it's the beginning of May!! I certainly didn't expect to still be wearing thermal vests and jumpers this long into the year!!!!
Unfortunately the heavy wind and the rain has done damage to the lilacs and apple blossom, so it isn't as gorgeous as I'd hoped for Mandi to see, still I don't think she was all that bothered this morning as she was feeling extremely tired, she'd been awake close on 26 hours by the time she went to bed!
Well today has been a nice relaxing one and we have been planning all the different places we are going to explore in Turkey!! As she won't be working until I've left, it means that we have 5 weeks to have fun, we've already planned to see as many sunsets as possible!! Yay!!!
Okay folks, sorry I don't have time to write very much. So I wish you all a very happy weekend.
At last we'll be mobile for the next week!!!

Jenny McIntyre club has replied to Pat Del clubIt was very nice to hear that Mandi got to you safe and sound. Isn't it super that you have such kind neighbors?! How awesome that Mandi and Emily got on perfectly, that's just super. And isn't Emily the best, fixing everything up AND cutting your lawn on top of it all! FABU! :)
Our weather is wonky too. Still near freezing in the morning, and yet, it got up to 80F today (26.7C)! What a difference for the whole day!
You know, I am sure Mandi won't mind that your flowering shrubs and trees are worse for wear, esp since she didn't see what they looked like at their best! :)
I am sure she's been sleeping like crazy...jet-lag + up for 24 hrs...UGH!! It really messes a person up, and it takes a while to get over, as you well know! :) Soon she'll be zooming around again!
How lovely it will be for you two to have 5 weeks to enjoy together. That's so wonderful, Jenny. How I envy the wonderful friendship you guys have...I wish my mom and I had been at all close instead of distant or at odds. Well, I will enjoy your relationship instead! :) Soon, you'll be taking pictures of sunset after sunset! HOORAY!!
Jenny McIntyre club has replied to Janet Brien clubI am sorry to hear that you and your mum didn't get on so well - I had the most amazing relationship with my mum - she was so loving and kind and funny too. I have always wanted to be the same kind of mum to my children and have that kind of friendship as well as maternal. I think if I can be half the person my mum was, then my kids will be lucky people. Yes you can certainly enjoy our relationship instead - I feel I'm a second mum to Emily, because I believe she didn't have a good relationship with her mum neither. So to be a second mum (older friend) to you - I would be honoured.
Janet Brien club has replied to Jenny McIntyre clubIt all makes sense with your explanation that you and your mom were such good friends and you "paid it forward", reaping the wonderful rewards with Mandi. It's so cool. And when you flip the picture around, my mom's mom reaped emotional abuse on my mom all of her years as a child and growing up...and when she later got Alzheimer's, she was so horrendous to my mom that my parents wouldn't take us to see her because she was such a vile creature. (I did love grandma very much, she was a quiet, nice lady but kept to herself...she would visit me at the bakery where I worked for a while, I loved that!) Everyone can choose how they react to a situation, and my mom paid it forward and treated me the same way her mom treated her--instead of breaking the cycle. A terrible shame. I have wondered if my grandmother's mom was vile to her as a child too. What a bummer it is. And especially so because a cycle CAN be broken. :(
And you really ARE like another mom to me, Jenny. Again and again I think to myself that you're like my English mom! :) I never wanted to say anything because you're not really much older than me (I was born in '64) and I wouldn't want to insult you...it's just that you're so "mom-like" the way you chat and talk about Mandi...I feel like a kid around you starring as Super Mom! :) *big hugs*
