Mandi and Dogan had taken on these two gorgeous kitties when their mother, called Annie, was being chased etc from many rampant cats!!!! She ran away with the males after her, so Mandi and Dogan took the kittens indoors to care for them while their mother was away. Well she was away almost two weeks. Their own cat Billy took the kittens to his heart immediately - methinks he might have been their father anyway!!
Alfie is the white, black and grey tabby and he was a "cuddle monster" according to Mandi. He was a lovely fluff ball and he just loved being cuddled.
About 3 days ago, Mandi told me that he had disappeared. He usually just hung around the garden, so for him to disappear was very suspicious. Then Billy the father cat, disappeared along with three kittens that had been born about 6 weeks ago - the result methinks of those rampant cats having caught poor Annie!
Well yesterday Mandi found Alfie under their patio table. He was in a terrible state - she said he looked as if he was in total shock, he was icy cold, and trembling. She took him indoors, and wrapped him up to keep him warm and then tried to find out what might be the reason. Apparently it sounded as if he'd been poisoned. Maybe having caught something that was already poisoned.
She rang me (skyped me), and was in an awful state - she said that his breathing was laboured and he was having the odd seizure. I couldn't do anything for her being so far away, but I could be with her on the phone. Within half an hour of us talking, Alfie died. She was absolutely distraught. Dogan was there and as Alfie had been his cat really, he was devastated too. So they both hugged each other and let the tears fall. She then apologized for me having to witness that - she's right it wasn't anything I wanted to see, but I wanted to be with her at that awful time. He was a character and will be sorely missed. Now they are trying to find Billy and the other kittens. Hope they haven't succummed to the same thing but hadn't managed to get back to the home.
I will miss him, even though I never met him, he was a gorgeous cat. As far as the other kitties, I had said that if I'd been out there living in Turkey, then I would have chosen to adopt these cats.
This is Annie with two of her tiny kitties, and one of these is missing now.
I mean - just look at these adorable kittens. The one at the back here is missing now, but the other one (my favourite) is still there...
Isn't she just gorgeous? I suggested to Mandi that they take Annie and what ever remaining kitties, indoors to keep them away from any poison.
The description of the unfortunate cats condition suggest to me that it had caught 'Feline Enteritis' a desease that few cats survive even when they have been innoculated.
May their New Year be kinder.
John.
Much as I hate to say it I would think someone is baiting the cats.
Only real thing Mandi and Dogan can do is as and how and when they can.. trap and get the cats spayed/neutered. That may just appease the vile soul(s) who are doing this.
Also. it will do the remaining cats a huge favour and limit the population .
I know it also is not easy. I am slowly cleaning up the same thing with spay/neuter because I have %^&*()_ neighbours who dont give a stuff about their poor barn cats and let them breed and breed. Kittens having kittens.
Slowly I am getting there.. we cant afford even with a wonderful vet who does what he can for a very cut rate to help... to get all done.. but we are winning. TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) works. You have healthy and held in check feral colonies .. and cats who can live a better life.. and you make it far kinder in the long run.
I am so sorry they had to go through this... but I very much doubt the deaths are accidental. Hopefully the hateful person will get a taste themselves... I have no conscience saying that either.
Hugssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
