These last few days the weather hasn't been very nice, with rain interspersing with the odd sunny spell, but today, even though the wind was quite strong, it was cold. I thought I'd better cut the lawn before more rain came - which is supposed to be tomorrow.....
So off I went with my walking stick and the key to the shed.... I got the mower out and also a brush to tackle the cobwebs around my windows. I have some ivy growing near the windows and also some little hedges around the base of them, so spiders have had a wonderful time making their homes to catch flies and butterflies unawares. Well I disturbed a rather large spider who'd been hiding underneath the actual window pane - he looked so scared that he ran and tried to get into a corner by making himself as small as possible. Now I really don't like spiders but I won't kill one, I tend to do the glass and card thingy to catch them without hurting them and then putting them outside. Well this one looked frightened - as much as they can - okay I was probably having a funny five minutes, but to me it looked scared, so I stopped trying to get it out of the corner and left it alone to find its way into the garden, and what did it do? - the darn thing ran over the window sill INTO the lounge!!!!! Now I was outside and couldn't reach over the sill to get it, so I have no idea where it's gone - it's IN HERE somewhere!!
To stop myself thinking about it - I grabbed the garden chair and started to mow the grass. I can't stand up for any length of time, so I sit in the chair and mow the lawn - as long as it gets done - does it really matter how I do it?
I started up the mower and almost immediately I noticed I had a visitor - well two of them really, but one was really cocky.....
a lovely female blackbird. Anyway I called her Sally. I talked to her and she hopped closer still with the worms in her beak. I'd stopped the mower when I saw her, but she looked at me as if to say "hurry up and do more please".
I started mowing again and she followed me digging up the grass and bringing forth some more worms. She then flew off, probably to her nest, but was back almost immediately just standing there waiting for me to carry on mowing the grass. This went on for about 20 minutes, when I stopped, she stood there just waiting for me to carry on - talk about a slave driver.....
I'm used to Boo talking to me to hurry up and feed her, she wakes me up in the morning with a particular meow... I call it her "feed me" meow. I swear she's got a clock inside her, because it's nearly always at the same time - she also asks for food around 6pm - when she talks to me at other times, it's just her usual "hello" and "what are you doing?"....... I digress - sorry..
When I'd finished cutting the grass, Sally just stood there, looked at me, then flew off. Even though I sat on the bench for a while, she never came back. Hmm she'd used me!!!
I wonder if she'll pop round another time - it was such a priviledged to have the trust of this lovely little bird.

I thought it looked more like a female Blackbird, but the lighting does at times do tricks with colours, thrushes have very spotty breasts a few female blackbirds also havem but the spots are very small and don't go all way down as they do with thrushes.
