I was very kindly taken out for a ride by my neighbour just to be near the sea. I do so miss going as often as I used to when I had a car, so it was lovely of her to offer to take me out.

We went firstly to Instow, a small village facing the mouths of the River Torridge and River Taw as they flow out into the Atlantic Ocean. It has a lovely beach which is usually crammed with visitors but this year has been dire. The cold damp weather has really put a dampner on any holidaying here.

There were some people on the beach but they were all wrapped up warm and it was a good place to let their dogs off the leash and to run around............

This is a lovely dog I saw on the beach - he had a great day running around, but his master only half-followed him, he probably felt it was more fun for the dog to go on it's own!!!......
.

This is Appledore from Instow - where we next visited.................I used to live there when I first married

This is the view I had every morning I woke up when I lived in Appledore.... Instow.

Appledore quay is a mish-mash of different styles of houses etc. Appledore has become an artist's haven. Something to do with the light, and also all other kind of artistans come here, sculptors, painters, crafts etc which means it's full of life, although this doesn't exactly look as if it's full of life in this photo!!!!!

One of the small side streets, there are loads of them coming off the quayside and it's heaven exploring them with their tiny shops promising unique handmade delights.....

This used to be my parents' shop and I lived in the top flat when I first married. Both my children came home from hospital when they were born to this flat. My parents' owned this shop from 1959 to 1978...

Someone has put this sign up explaining what you can find in the seashore when the tide goes out, and also tells more about how the quay was first formed. Very interesting........

This was where my ex-husband & I used to sit some evenings with the children when we had warm summer nights just to "chill out". It was a lovely time..

Hope you've enjoyed my little tour of some villages around me.
