The Four Seasons

Spring :
I did the four seasons, as I wanted to, but they are also the seasons of my life. The young girl is situated in a big anemone, which is one of the first flowers that grow in my garden in spring. The little girl has ringlets (I had them when I was a girl) and a romantic dress (we were dressed like this when I was a kid). She has no shoes, as we used to play without shoes when we were kids, as we lived in India(the weather being so hot) She is looking at a real sized anemone and a soucis (these colours I love together) and contemplating life and wondering at the beauty of nature.

Summer:
This is a young woman who is so happy and care free and doesn’t yet know what life is all about. She is sun bathing (topless) as young girls do these days. She is in a sunflower, as that depicts the sun, summer etc. This was the summer of my life, as I lived in Martinique and worked on boats and was on the beaches all the time.

Autumn:
This is the only painting that doesn’t have an autumn flower. I wanted to show the autumn colours and the shadow (self portrait) is shown on the floor. I wanted to depict the artistic side of the autumn of my life, as I started to paint only at 40 years old. This shows my painting and photography – all in one!

Winter:
How could I even do it? Well, it was not so difficult. I showed the girl going into a tubular flower. She is going into the depth of our universe, the source of the flower. At the same time she is clinging on to anemones, that is, clinging on to life. This completes the circle of life. One asks, why she is so young, and I did her young, as one can die at any age.
