This is a lovely technique for childrens faces, as it gives a very smooth even finish and the colours blend into each other. It is very difficult as the paper can take only that much of the chalk and then falls off. The pastels don't have a point, so the details are very difficult to do. So one has to really know what they are doing! To get the resemblance of a child is very difficult, but with doing several, one gains experience. I have done over 50 portraits either in pastel, oil, or acrilique. You can go into "albums" and then check out "Painting - Pastel" and look at some of my work.
