This week has again been very busy in work. Each day, I’ve worked at least an hour extra with the same scheduled for the next 2 weeks assuming orders don’t drop off. This week we ran out of most cat food pouches, certain bleaches, antiseptic wipes… They’re flying off the shelves faster than they can be restocked. Bottled water has been the same, and here’s the title explanation. A man approached me in the aisle and stated he’d picked up a pack of 12 bottles of water but noted that one was missing. I advised him to give it to me, and to collect another. He replied, a little crossly, that this was the only one there! I went and had a look for similar packs, and pointed one out, but he was adamant that he wanted that one. I apologised, and said that we’d obviously run out of stock, and he should pick something else, but no, he wanted that one! I apologised again and stated if we don’t have any that he wants, then I don’t know what to say. He then said I was rude and demanded my name so that he could make a complaint about me. I gave him my name, it’s on my badge anyway, and said that was his prerogative and off he stomped.
After I’d completed my trolley, I took it back and went and had a word with my manager. I’m off now for 2 days, and I didn’t want him ‘stewing’ about the complaint or contacting me at home. I confess, the incident, although minor, left me feeling somewhat shaken, and my hands were trembling. I explained what had happened, and that the customer had demanded my name. Anyway, much to my relief, my manager just laughed, and stated that he’d never found me to be rude, and to forget about it. Phew!
Over the decades, I’ve had babysitting jobs, dog walking jobs, worked in a corner shop, a department store, the Civil Service, a university, now a supermarket, and nobody has ever said that I was rude, although one Psychology lecturer did state that I wasn’t deferential enough bearing in mind he was a senior lecturer LMAO! I think it says more about the customer, than me, so I’m not going to sweat it. Other than that, it’s been a good week, though very hot.
I’ve switched to a different shampoo and so on, and my eczema is healing up beautifully. My scalp is a little slow to heal, though it’s better than it was. Just as well because I’d seen a nurse regarding same and she was very unhelpful. I’ve switched fabric conditioner too, to an eco-friendly one, and that’s helping too though the same clothes wash is a tad pricey, so I’ll hold off on that for now. Why are the eco ones, with no sulfates, so much more expensive? I did manage to buy some eco-friendly surface and bathroom cleaners, on offer, and I have to say, not only do they clean things beautifully, they smell wonderful!
I’ve been eating less in this heat, opting for Greek salad rather than a sandwich, and main meals have been lighter too as it’s too hot. I’ve lost a little weight, so that’s good though I keep having to tighten my belt as my new trousers are already a little loose. I so wish I could get the weight off certain areas, but they’re proving stubborn.
I’m hoping in the next week or so that we hear something about the house, and a potential contract. So far, we haven’t even had a surveyor come around. I’m saving money like crazy in case we have to move, and I’ve accrued 2 carrier bags of bubble wrap sheets for packing plates and so on. If we can stay, then I’ll simply seal the bags to keep them dust free because at some point, we will move unless my son gets a job locally, which in his field, is not very likely.
Anyway, it’s hot, I hate it lol, and fervently hope next week the forecast rain falls on us. Take care, don’t get sunburned, try and keep cool – I came home today (Sunday) to find my wonderful son had made us both iced coffee! That boy knows what I like :)

That customer obviously likes to think he's more important than anyone else. It also shows his personality is awful - complaining because he can't have exactly what he wanted, even though he could have close to it. Stupid man - I'd forget it Fran, and at least your manager agrees with me - you don't sound as if you could ever be rude to customers.
Many congrats on losing weight - I've given up trying - it's too complicated and annoying. I don't eat much anyway - but there again I don't move about much, so that would explain any weight gain.
No arguments from me. I did hear how one supermarket worker was assaulted by a customer, simply because the store had run out of something and they were cross. The police were involved, thankfully, and I hope they get fined heavily. No idea what store, it was on the news a little while back.
Thanks. It's this job. We rush around, are very busy, though the weight loss is an added bonus for me :) Just wish I could 'target' some areas lol
I am jealous about the weight loss. These days no matter how much more active I am I can barely drop a couple of pounds! I haven’t been this heavy since I was pregnant!
I still don’t understand why you all don’t have screened windows for bugs & at least ceiling fans for the occasional warm day. Its not like you don’t always get well into the mid to high 20’s during summer with an occasional 30 thrown in. Warm enough for me to want air and fans!
And iced coffee is one of my favorites too.
Like I said, it's the job. I like it, the pay isn't bad, but it is quite physical and pretty relentless. I rarely stand around and talk; too busy.
We could have those things, if it's your own house, though they'd cost too much to run for many of us. I couldn't afford to run an AC unit, I know that, electricity costs are pretty high here. Bug screen would be costly too, the windows are very big, and this isn't my house. Just have to put up.
A woman of good taste :)
