My son has recently declared that I’m not to be trusted. Sadly, I may have to agree with him. As mentioned before, my laptop has been playing up. It shuts itself down with alarming frequency, and with no notice. Initially, I assumed the battery power had run down, however upon restart, the battery power was fine. I’ve lost work. It’s frustrating… My son has an old PC in his room, and he has given it to me. It’s a huge beastie compared to my laptop though it’s so much faster, and it has a good amount of spare memory; more than I could ever use. To use said PC, I needed to buy a monitor and a keyboard. He helped me with the monitor as I needed one that has built-in speakers due to the PC having no sound card. He then left me to choose a keyboard, after all, what could possibly go wrong?

The monitor and keyboard arrived, and my son set to work deleting a lot of his old stuff, and generally tidying up. He touch-types and rarely looks at the keys (show-off lol). At one point, he looked at the keyboard so that he could do something and asked why I had bought a French keyboard. What the…? Ok, this was clearly an error on my part, however I’m using the UK version of Amazon, why was it so easy to buy a non-UK keyboard? Who even knew that I could? So, he watched whilst I ordered another keyboard, UK style, and shook his head in disbelief at me.

For now, I can’t even return the freaking French keyboard as I can’t print a returns label; the library is closed until goodness only knows when, and I can’t use my phone to download a returns code. Why on earth can’t Amazon send a returns label like they used to, especially with so many things closed due to this damned virus? The PC has now been set up though what my son thought would be a half hour job, turned into 3 hours. He could download the returns label on his phone, and come with me to the post office, but after all that he’s done, I can’t ask him. Hopefully, the library will be open again before the returns date runs out but either way, it wasn’t an expensive keyboard.

Having a screen that I can’t tilt will take some getting to, and I’m having trouble getting the distance right between me and the screen though a lot of that could well be my eyes as sometimes I can’t focus on close things due to using so many eyedrops. A PC is very different from using a laptop, I find, though I’m impressed at the speed it loads up. Usually, I start the laptop and walk away to make my breakfast whilst it loads up. This morning, I started the PC, switched on the monitor, and it was ready before I’d stepped away. I like it! The laptop will be confined to a cupboard, and I will use and update it occasionally just in case this ‘old’ PC dies the death. Never hurts to have a backup…

It’s back to work on Monday for an extra 6-hour shift. It’s taken 5 days, before I got a decent lie-in; Saturday I slept until just after 6am, and Sunday it was just after 6.30am that I awoke. Not that late, I know, but compared to my usual time, that’s huge! Today, Sunday, we’re having roast chicken dinner. We don’t have meat that often anymore, and I do like a roast, so this will be a nice treat.

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend. Have a good week, take care, and be safe.
