This week, I have been disgusted by customers who have left a mess in the store. I was in the egg aisle and slipped on something. I almost lost my balance, grabbed my trolley, twisted my ankle, and scraped my elbow on the trolley. I managed to stay upright, barely, but my elbow is now cut and bruised. The culprit? Somebody had dropped an egg on the floor and just left it there. Honestly, it costs nothing to tell a member of staff, and we won’t be cross, we will however clean it up before somebody injures themselves. The second customers were, I think, grandparents, who were out with their grandchild. Said kid had an ‘accident’ and they just walked off and left a puddle on the shop floor. I left my trolley and reported it so that a cleaner could be called. When the cleaner arrived, somebody, presumably the culprits, had placed 4 baby plates near the mess. Now, these will have to be thrown away and that costs the store money. What kind of people leave p*ss on the floor, in a food store, and walk away? Makes me sick!
This week alone, I’ll be working over 5 hours overtime. I have one more shift to go, then I’m off for a week. Nice! To counter that, I’ve been persuaded to work 2 extra shifts, both 6 hours during the rest of January. So, I have 22 hours off; my standard week, and overtime totalling, so far, over 17 hours. This seems to happen all the time; I have time off, then get talked into working overtime so basically my time off is negated lol. I could say no, of course, though I’m half-expecting a sizeable bill so the overtime will help to cover that. Again, they’ve asked if I’d be interested in working full days, but I can’t face it. Apart from tax issues, after a 6 hour day I’m wiped out and rarely manage to stay awake until bedtime. It’s nice to feel needed, but I’m no spring chicken…
The Ship’s Dog has been a worry, again, as he’s not eating enough. He had a little slip on Monday and spent two days shaking and not eating anything. He’s since perked up, seems happy in himself, even goes out for walkies, but he isn’t eating properly. We’ve tried fresh kibble, wetting it so it isn’t hard, and have added extra meat to tempt him; all to no avail. If this carries on, I’ll have to get something from the vet just to ensure he’s getting the nutrients and vitamins that he needs. He’s always been a fussy eater, but this is extreme, even for him.
Not much else going on, my sister is… well, let’s just say the irony of some of the cr*p she comes out with beggar’s belief. I love her, honestly, I do, but sometimes it’s hard to like her. The Deckhand is behaving, mostly, but he has his moments too. Ooh, maybe it’s me being a grumpy old bag lol. Not enough sleep, too much pins and needles, and so cold here. The snow and ice we had is mostly gone and we’ve had some rain which is helping melt the persistent stuff. I’ll take rain over snow any day. If I was at home all day, the snow wouldn’t be a problem, but leaving the house around 5.30am and having to scrape the car, it’s no joke.
Oh, the plumber actually turned up, and took less than half hour to sort out the two leaks; just a little tightening up and so far, no leaks. Hopefully that’s the end of that though it took almost 4 weeks to get it sorted. Shakes head in disbelief…
I note I’ve had almost 30,000 visits. Not many, compared to some, but bearing in mind I just waffle on, and rarely post photos, it’s not bad lol
Enjoy what’s left of the weekend and have a good week ahead. Take care, be safe and well.

A few years ago I was collecting money for the lifeboats in Consett (up high and well away from the coast ...) We were there all day, so got to see some real examples of humanity, and several times we heard "cleaner to Aisle x" with x being either a number or a location / product. I saw the day-shift lass in the break room not long after one of these calls - it seems someone had tipped over several jars and bottles to deliberately make a mess. So security were looking into the CCTV for the culprit(s). Apparently, it wasn't that uncommon.
Poor ship's dog ! I'm not sure what to suggest. We've got the opposite problem with Ben - he's eating too much and not getting enough exercise.
Bit of a thaw overnight, so we've now got a cold and muddy garden instead of an icy one. Birds still eating loads ... we've now added a few starlings to the queues for the feeders. Had to laugh yesterday, a blackbird took umbrage with a starling hogging the feeder, so delivered a warning peck to the starling's rear end ... some time later there was another blackbird and starling having a beak to beak standoff at the same feeder. No injuries as they both flew off after a moment or two when the woodpecker arrived !
Work's being a pain - trying to keep everyone playing nicely when I can't be in there to referee ... and now the lockdown is stopping both deliveries of materials and a carriage swop happening.
Happy New Year !
(looking forward to getting my arm jabbed, probably around May)
I don't think I could do your hours at all. Let alone do more. Surely they must realise that if you wanted full time, you'd ask for it. It can't be for more than 16 hours a week anyway, or else you'll lose your benefit. They'd have to pay more to cover that, plus the extra money. Not worth it, you'd be ill and not able to do any work at all.
Sorry to hear about the Ship's Dog. My cat, Pippin, keeps throwing up - I think he goes outside, eats the grass (which has probably been sprayed on by other cats) and then comes in and THAT "noise" of imminent hawking up of stuff, is enough for you to move quickly to get him outside of the carpeted lounge!!!!
We've not had any snow nor ice, although the temps are in the minus' bracket. There's no wind so if it was freezing fog, it would certainly make pretty patterns in the trees.
So it only took half an hour to fix the leak, and you've had to put up with it for ages.
Sara, mask compliance is not too bad, tho personally I hate wearing it. After about 5 hours or so, I start to feel a tad sick tho obviously I wear one because we have to. Don't have to like it... You have a nice variety of birds there.
Jenny - I don't get any benefits, that's why I'm working. I have my works pension, reduced because I took early retirement. I don't want to work too many hours as I'll just lose it in tax, and could even be paying back the student loan. Hope Pippin is better soon. I'm so over snow and ice now, and fed up of being cold. We have central heating in most of the house, but it's a hard house to keep warm.
The egg and pee incidents are ridiculous. Unfortunately I can believe it. People are such pigs. And so inconsiderate!
The poor dog. And you and the deckhand too. Youve really done all you can food wise. Perhaps a scrambled egg? They're good for them and dogs do love them.
Glad the plumber finally showed. Having to wait. Thats one of the problems with a rental. Always a down side with everything.
I managed to entice him to eat some dinner Sunday afternoon, but it isn't much, and not enough though as I said, he seems happy in himself, just off his food, again. So frustrating. Never tried him with scrambled egg, though he does like raw egg now and again, I shall get some.
