Well, 8 days as far as work is concerned.

Part 1:

Day 1 – Not too crazy, only a 4-hour shift which was nice. So many customers on the shop floor wanting us to reach things, and also asking questions. Oy! One of our colleagues was playfully jostling another colleague’s trolley so I laughed and then told them to ‘play nicely.’ After that he kept calling me Mum – cheek! He asked if I wanted to smack his hand. I said No, and that I thought he might like it which amused him hugely. Afterwards I did a mad rush of a shop to take advantage of our extra staff discount. A mad rush because we have a call in for a leak under the sink, and I don’t know when the plumber will be free so have to be available as much as possible.

Day 2 – Another 4-hour shift. A lot of older customers on the shop floor. They mill around talking to each other. I wouldn’t mind; however, they block whole areas that we need to get to. Oh well. We have extra goods out the back now so that we’re not stripping the shelves bare. It makes sense, but there no logic to how they’re placed. I go through the doors to the back on a blue or green pick, and by the time I find what I want out the back, I’m in the red. It’s so disheartening. I don’t complain in work – hard to believe I know lol, however when a member of the management team asked how I was, I did mention the above and that it was tanking my pick rate. They said it was more important to get what the customers need, and for now at least, not to worry about pick rates. Good news! Another dash home; no news of the plumber calling.

Day 3 – A 5-hour shift today. Another busy shift, lots of customers, lots of queries mainly, I think, because so much stock is being moved around for Christmas displays. I was in a better mood today, though the Christmas songs are beginning to get on my nerves. Staff out the back are now helping us find items that we aren’t supposed to take from the shop floor so that helps speed us along. Although I finished on a red pick, again, I did have one pick that took me well over the pick rate; instead of the target of 190, I had a pick rate of 325! I love customers who want lots of the same item.

Day 4 – Another-5 hour shift. One of the colleagues cut me up with her trolley. She apologised though I stated I’d get her in the next aisle and laughed. Her response? She said she’d be fine with that, then we both laughed. O…K… Honestly, in the main they’re a great bunch. One colleague, a man, always seems genuinely pleased to see me and always asks how I am. Today, I was rushing as I was leaving, and he was coming around the corner, and we almost bumped into each other. A few seconds earlier… LMAO. He’s really nice though I suspect too young, and maybe he’s just nice to everyone… Oh, I bought the Christmas beef joint today. A good price, and I get the staff discount too. There should be plenty for a second meal I have planned, and some meat for sandwiches too. I love a beef sandwich. We had a small treat today; we were each given a bag of 6 Quality Street chocolates. Unexpected, and a nice little treat.

Still no plumber :(

Well, that’s my 8-day epic half over with. Each evening, I’ve fallen asleep in front of the TV. I’m such a lightweight lol. The extra money from all the overtime will be well received, and hopefully I can add to the treasure chest as I suspect I may need a new lens in my glasses for just the one eye. Sighs…

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend.
