This past week we’ve been beset by zombies. These poor souls wander the aisles, weaving back and forth, trying to find items to add to their trolley, then try to find their way out with their goods. They may be annoying to some, but we must pity them their lack of direction and lucid thinking. Maybe aliens sucked their brains out. Or some mad scientist experimented on them and these husks are the result of his nefarious experiments. Who knows? LMAO
There’s been more ‘drama’ in the produce (fruit and veg) aisles this week with a customer kicking one of our trolleys. I’m not sure what I would have done, possibly apologised for being in his way, however he chose to upset a colleague who is not so apologetic. She demanded to know why he had kicked her trolley, to which he replied that she was in his way, as were the rest of us. She then told him he should have asked her to move, and that she would have happily done so. He looked somewhat abashed, then left the aisle leaving myself and customers alike to look on bemusedly. Honestly, there’s no need for bad manners. We have trolleys for frozen food, chilled food, and ambient – cans, packet goods and so on. We average 400 orders a day, and if every customer has frozen, and chilled, and ambient goods – which doesn’t always happen, then without us picking, there would be an additional 133 customers in the store compared to around 20 or so pickers. Just to be clear…
This week, I went into work to be met with an horrific sight. It was barely 6am, my coffee had hardly kicked in, and it’s not even halfway through November. What did I see? A man on a ‘ladder’ hanging Christmas decorations! The horror! I know we all need a little something to look forward to, but decorations this early? I shook my head, sadly, and left him to get on with it.
Oh, speaking about work, a colleague who had left to go travelling with his family is starting back with us again due to the lockdown. He’s a tad older than me, unlike all the new staff, and we get on well so it’s nice that he’ll be working with us again for a few weeks. So many of the new staff are very young and I have nothing in common with them, so some old blood is great. Did that sound weird? Lol.
I love my kid sister, honestly, I do, but sometimes… We talk every weekend and usually get on very well, however this past weekend I found her comments to be very insensitive, bordering on the tactless. She was making derogatory remarks about supermarket workers. Um, hello! Some of us have to work for a living because we can’t get the social services to fund our lifestyle choice. She also excitedly mentioned that she’ll be mortgage free in a few years, whilst knowing full well that I’ll be paying rent until the day I die through no fault of my own, whilst she was given a council house (I was told I had no chance when I desperately needed one) which she then bought for a fraction of its worth. Not exactly tactful of her.
It’s getting much colder here, and I treated myself to some brushed cotton pyjamas hoping that being extra warm would help me sleep better. Well, they’re wonderfully soft and slightly fluffy, but I was so warm I had a terrible night. It’s back to bed shorts for me, and a thin, long-sleeved top lol. The fluffy pyjamas will be consigned to the drawer until it gets colder. I’m sure I’ll appreciate them once my bedroom gets down to around 10C, which it does, every winter. Brrr.
Okay. Enjoy what’s left of the week and take care.

Im surprised at your sister.. That sounds totally oblivious to everyone around her.. My sister can be oblivious. Im waiting for her to decide what we will do Christmas. With the amount of people it would be I buy a bit each week so its not ridiculous all at once.. As she's in Florida its an issue due to the virus + as we live in one of the nazi states where you literally need papers to go from state to state now. Our lovely governor again. We have 47 states on the list of needing papers. If you are from out of state, depending which you're in. NY says if no papers you may be fined up to $10,000! I do not joke. Here its still on the honor system but regardless of test results you must quarantine 14 days. No mention what wil happen if you are caught. Kinda scary.
Im sure it will get cold enough for your new pjs. If not theres always a pajama day. Isn't boxing day a pj day?
I was surprised too, and not happy with her.
Oh my goodness that sounds a real pain, though no different from Wales or Scotland being off limits from England. I left off Ireland as they're a separate island. They're taking all these measures, and infections are supposedly through the roof here so it clearly isn't working.
A PJ day sounds good lol, and they'll be ideal.
I'm like Mickey - when I see you've written a blog, I know I'm going to enjoy it. I don't have any central heating in my home, but I've yet to feel that cold that I needed to wear brushed cotton pj's. I've made so many quilts over the years, that I would just add another one to the bed. As of yet, only a thin throw has been necessary to add to my bedding. I'm as snug as a bug in a rug in my bed.
That does sound very insensitive of your sister - as I've never had one, I don't know what it's like. She surely knows what you've had to contend with and how you are struggling now, that she would be much nicer to you. Have a good week to follow sweetie.
Thanks Jenny. Seeing panic buying again here. One day, we ran out of flour. This week we were very short on eggs. Sunday, we had been cleared out of microwave rice pouches. We have some staff self-isolating due to pre-existing conditions, and some shoppers are simply piling their trolleys high. We can't get stock on the shelves fast enough and many of us are working overtime to try and keep on top of things. Yes, we'll get paid for it, however it's exhausting.
Glad to see you're snug.
My sister - it gets worse... Not sure I'll blog it or not but she's really winding me up at this time.
