After Thursday, I’ll have just 4 weeks of my contract to run. After a shaky start I’ve managed to get my pick rate up, though I’m often still in the Red for the day. I have some good picks, some fantastic ones, though usually just in the Red for the day. Despite that, I was asked today, and not for the first time, what my plans were for once my contract was over. I stated this was my job, and that I don’t have a job to go back to. A supervisor asked if I’d be free to stay on and I affirmed that I would. Nothing concrete yet, just checking our availability, but the fact that I was even asked gives me a glimmer of some hope for staying on. The next few weeks will tell…
It’s quite an arduous job, and quite rushed on times, though I’ve often been offered overtime which I never refuse, and if we have to stay over our time to finish our final pick of the day, then we’re paid for that which is good. I’m getting some muscle tone in my arms (I’m not that strong so this is great) and I recently pulled a muscle in my side and noted I could feel a rib! LMAO It’s a good workout. And I get paid. I am however quite bruised. I dropped a can on my wrist which bruised almost straight away, scraped my arm whilst stacking shelves, and have bruised knees from knocking the trolley. I bruise ever so easily so it’s no surprise.
This week, for the first time this year I think, I fell on the stairs. You have to go down a step from the bathroom onto the landing, then up a step into my bedroom. I stepped across, forgot there was a step down, and literally fell into my bedroom like a sack of… I’ll say potatoes to be polite. My son came running upstairs to check on me, but I was okay, just winded, and I have a cracking bruise on my knee. I’m such a klutz! I also have bruises on my forearms from walking into the door handles. Once I live on my own again, I’ll get some foam protectors for them, to protect me lol. My son hates them so maybe not just yet.
Speaking of, he didn’t get anywhere with the firm in Nottingham which is a shame. They wanted to see his work, weren’t hiring just yet, but would have placed him on their books if they liked his work. I’m sad for him, but he says he’s over it already.
From Friday customers have to wear face coverings in the store, and despite governments guidelines stating shop workers don’t have to, we’ve had a missive stating we do have to wear them. Bummer! I’m not sure what this will do to my pick rate, and I get quite hot already without having a mask on. Guess I’ll just have to get used to it like everybody else. I do wonder sometimes if we’ll ever return to how things were, or if this will all become the new norm. How our young adults are supposed to find a bf of gf with all this social distancing, and now masks too, is quite beyond me. Maybe over the years, if this carries on, the birth rate will drastically decline. Who knows?
Enjoy the rest of the week. Enjoy the sunshine if you have it, and take care.

Yes I think this new way of life may be the "norm" for quite a while. People are too scared to go out and in a funny way - it's helped a lot of people get to know their families again and things are so much better for them all. I see what you mean about the masks not being very condusive for getting a bf or gf!!!
The search is just starting for your son. He'll find something. .Its a little overwhelming at first.
