This week I had a small mishap in the galley. I’d done the washing up, placed the mugs on the side of the draining board (it’s very small) and placed the cutlery and a ladle into the cutlery drainer. I’ve no idea where I brought this ladle from: it’s stainless steel and very heavy duty, a very nice piece of kitchen equipment. Anyway, the ladle tipped over the cutlery drainer, bashed against the dish drainer and shoved it to the side a tad. This in turn knocked one of my favourite cups which took a death defying leap into the air and smashed into many pieces on the tiled galley floor. I stood by, helplessly watching. It all seemed to happen in slow motion, but I had no chance of catching said cup; it was like one of those snooker trick shots you used to see on the TV. I’d bought a pair of these small mugs from Waitrose (posh shop) many years ago so it wasn’t new, however I did like it. I won’t replace it; if I get desperate (as in smashing more cups/mugs) I do have a box of nice plates and cups that I never got around to unpacking. We also have some plastic mugs and plates (picnic stuff) that I bought prior to the move so that I could pack all the china. Maybe I shouldn’t be trusted with china anymore? LMAO
The weather has taken a turn from the short heatwave, thankfully, and we had some rain though not copious amounts, lots of grey skies, and mercifully my bedroom temperature has dropped about 9 degrees. I’m not complaining. We had a cool, sunny day and I was able to get the bedding on the rigging so that was good.
This week I walked into town to top up on some essentials that I can buy cheaper than in the supermarket. It was nice to see many shops have reopened, though not all of them yet, but customers were few and far between. No queuing, so hassles, and I bought what I needed. A town not a million miles away has been forced to lockdown again after a rise in virus infections, so topping up seemed like a good plan. I was a tad miffed about some belts I’d seen. I’d bought two recently; not lost any more weight, however my trousers have become quite loose and I kept having to pull them up. A belt, or two, is far cheaper than buying new trousers however in the town I saw some nice belts that were half what I’d paid. D’oh!
I shall top up on groceries after work, then do another top-up shop on Saturday just to keep the larder well-stocked in case we enter another lockdown. I don’t want to be caught out like last time. Oh, I got paid :) It was more than I was expecting – how often can anyone say that! – so I’ve put aside the excess in case it’s wrong. I should get a paper payslip this week so hopefully I can check it soon. In other exciting news lol I have a haircut booked for next week. It’s been so long since hairdressers/barbers have been open. I’m going to get it cut shorter than usual, if the hairdresser does what I ask, so it will hopefully last me. I’ve had to supply my name and phone number, presumably so I can be traced if there’s any issues afterwards. Not happy about that, though it seems many businesses will be doing this particularly pubs and so on. Will we ever get back to normal, or will this all become the new normal? Horrible thought…
The Deckhand is working hard getting some work together to send to a company about 60 miles away. They’re looking for new graduates, and looking at their work, in the hope that once things calm down more, they may look at hiring people. Fingers crossed. He’s mostly okay, though like a lot of people his age (and people not his age) he’s concerned about the impact the virus will have on his future employment prospects. I just wish he’d come shopping with me, or at least get a haircut. He hasn’t left the house in months, except to walk the dog in the early hours. It can’t be healthy…
The lifeboat received another minor ding. I heard a crash from the living room and went to investigate only to find a huge piece of plastic facia board outside the house. It had obviously landed on the car, scratched the paintwork by the rear window, and slighly dented it. The Deckhand and I stood looking up, couldn't see anywhere it could have come from, so left it propped against a nearby wall. Later, somebody must have spied it and removed it because it was gone by morning. I'd have liked to chat about the minor damage to my lifeboat, but no such luck. Honestly, the lifeboat has had more damage done to it (by other people) in 2 years here, than in the 8 years at the previous house in Wales.
That's enough of my ramblings ;) Enjoy the rest of the week. Keep safe.

60 miles .. Guess that would mean another move. Especially since your son doesn't drive. Unless theres the train available to him?
What a shame about the car. People can be so rude!
Yes, it was. Of all the dings my car has received, only one person stopped and offered insurance details. None of the damage is major, but drivers here are appalling!
I hoe the lad gets his position
Such a shame about your car though - who on earth would have damaged your car like that and then not admit to it? Mind you it was a plastic fascia board, so had blown from someone's house, so the next day, they found it propped up where you'd put it, so they probably just picked it up and went home with it. Not good for you though - any luck with the insurance for it?
