Jumped Ship
After a 3-week break for Christmas, the Deckhand has once again jumped ship. Friday, I set the alarm for 5am to get a good start, however I was awake from 3am; I can’t settle if I have a big journey ahead of me. The day started damp and the Lifeboat was quickly loaded up and after many hugs for the Ship’s Dog, we were off. As an aside, my sister has a key, so she can check on the dog should I be delayed.
We stopped at the usual place for a comfort break, then set off again into driving rain. It was horrendous! We arrived safely, not too many delays, and set to unloading. Thankfully nobody was around, and I parked right outside his house on the pavement. On moving-in day, despite me having a pass that said I could park alongside the house, student wannabe dictators made us park elsewhere and walk about 100 yards with all his ‘stuff’ to unload. Rather than both of us wade through a half-inch puddle outside the patio doors, he unloaded and passed the stuff to me, and I moved it away from the door. We then spent about an hour hanging up clothes, making the bed, setting up the PC…
After unpacking, we went to the local shops to get petrol, and the Deckhand stocked up so that he wouldn’t have to go again for a week. I told him to make the most of having a ‘taxi’ and get anything he needed. He did a good shop. I had a quick coffee, and a sugar hit (doughnut) and a hug and by 12.30, I was on my way home. Miraculously the sun came out and I drove home in relative dry weather, barring some left-over spray. By 3.30pm I was home and unpacked and putting the kettle on. The dog had been good, and was very excited to see me.
Recently, the car wouldn’t start, and we had to have the breakdown people out. Whilst we were out, the car wouldn’t unlock with the remote. Thank goodness the driver door has a keyhole, so I could unlock it that way. I thought it was a dead battery, however afterwards it worked again. Car service coming up soon. I’d put money aside for moving costs however I now find I have a rather large bill to pay and it will wipe out half of what I’d earmarked for the move. Bummer!
Now work starts on trying to sell some collectors plates I have before the move, and getting rid of paperwork I don’t need. I found, in a box from the attic, books of my financial records going back years. They’ll take some shredding! If I had a real fire, I’d probably burn them though appreciate this isn’t eco-friendly, so shredding it is. I also found loads of photos of the Deckhand from when he was only a few years old. He was so cute!
Anyway, loads to do. Have a great weekend.

Better it rained while you had company than alone. Im glad it was dry on the return trip.
.Sorry about the car. These things always have bad timing. Hope the rest of your weekend is uneventful.
What an awful journey you have to take and I can fully appreciate how knackered you must have felt when you eventually got home. I have similar issues with my car too.
My shredder says it will take 6 pages, however if you add 2 or more, it struggles. It took me 2 days, on and off, to create 2 swing bin liners full of shredding. I also took 2 large carrier bags of stuff to the charity shop. The big clean up is well under way :)
The journey is a drag, and hopefully I won't have to do many, if any, more of them until I move.
