Bearing in mind I’m thinking of moving away from this area, I’ve been looking at alternatives, and jokingly suggested to my son that maybe living in a trailer, or Park Home as they’re called in the UK, would be a cheaper way of living. I’ve looked at a few sites, and seen some lovely properties, but good grief what a price! As an example, a 2-beroomed Park Home can cost as much as £125,000 (and that seems to be a cheap one!) On top of that you often must pay between £120 and £200 a month to rent the space the home is on. Oh well, that’s the end of that pipe dream! They do look nice, and often are on a small plot with a car space, and they all boast a good community feel, however in the area that I’m looking, you can buy a house/bungalow complete with proper garden, and still have change. Looks like I’ll be renting until I die at this rate…
My son wants to leave the UK soon after graduating, and I don’t blame him, though he has said that if he does, he would try and sponsor me to go with him so long as I don’t want to live with him. That works for me – I like my own space, and who wants to live with their Mum for too long anyway? There’s hope yet :)
Summer wasn’t too bad here, and we’ve made a few changes to how we use the water and gas, and recently had the meters read. I’m over £70 in credit on my fuel bills. Excellent! I’m letting it carry forward as the winter bills are always costlier, though with only one person soon in the house, they should be cheaper anyway.
Almost all the packing-up is done, however I keep waking-up around 3am fretting over what else can be done prior to my son leaving. It occurred to me the other morning, at 3.30am, that on the day we’ll have to pack the car in the dark. It can’t be packed the evening before because we don’t have a garage, and leaving a car full of ‘stuff’ overnight on the drive is just asking for trouble. We must unpack at the Uni between 9am and 9.30am, and I’m beginning to regret not being fully awake when my son suggested such an early start. He wants to be there, and to get involved, but we’ll have to pack the car around 5am, in the dark. I have a torch, and a lamp, so hopefully all will be okay. We have a street light right outside our house, however it’s switched off at 10pm to save the council money. It’ll soon be done, and I’ll have 13 weeks to rest lol.
The date for ‘disposing’ of the old £1 coin is looming, and I read recently that some shops etc are returning new coins to be disposed of because they can’t tell the difference. O…K… In the spirit of helpfulness, and because I’m such a kind person, I’m putting it out there that all £1 coins can be delivered to me and I’ll sort them and dispose of them accordingly. Of course, some may find their way to my ‘house fund’. This same offer will apply when the new £10 notes come into circulation. Any takers? LMAO

We recently had our gas meter changed per the companies request since they'e updated. Between insulating the house (a $30O+ less ussage credit so far from that) and they found our reader unit was defective so gave us a $600+ credit we are now $1000 ahead and won't pay a bill for 4 months. And the first bill should only be about $4.00! Then back to regular payments. And we are on the budget plan which they've dropped the monthly..
Any idea where out of the UK you may end up?
So far, Sweden or USA are favourites of his. I'd like Canada, but he's not so keen because of the cold. I think he's leaning towards California. He has to graduate yet, and get good grades, then a job... He's very good with money and can be quite determined so I think he'll get what he wants, in the long term.
Good news on the fuel bill any break from those robber barons is good
Mick - Thanks. I need some dry days now to get on top of the laundry. Having to wash some items, like shirts, that he wasn't worn in ages just to freshen them up. He needs them for his job on campus.
