This week, my son and I turned up for our dental appointment. Well, I had the day and time right, but not the week. What a numpty! I’ve never done that before. My son suggested a reboot of my brain – cheeky pup, though on reflection, it could be a good idea bearing in mind how poor my memory is these days. I saw my GP this week, and she’s going to chase up my CT scan. We had a good chat about options and help for me, though she can’t do much until they ensure there’s nothing physically wrong in my head. My, that does sound fun. You have to laugh…

After the semi-failed unbirthday cake incident last week, my son decided to make me a cake of my choosing. I chose a very simple chocolate sandwich cake. He got out all the ingredients – a good start, and carefully measured them all into a large mixing bowl. He then read the instructions. LMAO. You’re supposed to cream together the butter and sugar, then add the rest of the ingredients in turn, mixing well each time. This helps the cake to rise. I did try and assist, but was told in no uncertain terms, that he was making it. He added tinned and drained cherries to the raw mixture, and proceeded to cook it. It tasted very nice, and I did appreciate his efforts, however it didn’t rise much, and the cherries are easy to spot as the sponge had sunk over each one. Not bad for a first effort though, and it was definitely edible. I’m hoping that whilst he’s away, and does his own cooking, that he’ll read the instructions.

All too soon, I’ll be driving to foreign parts, and on some occasions, will have to drive home on my own, and at Christmas I’ll have to drive there on my own. It’s easy when you have someone in the car who can read a map, and follow written directions too, however on my own, this isn’t a good option. To that end I recently bought a Satnav. Wow, you can pay an awful lot for those! I bought one up from the bottom of the range due to it having a larger screen. It doesn’t have Europe on it, but I won’t ever be driving there again so no point paying extra for that. It took ages to charge and setup, but it’s working and I plan to go out to the shops later today using its directions. I do know where I’m going, this is merely a test so that I can get used to it. I’ve chosen a man’s voice as it’ll be nice to have a man in the car lol. I’ve already programmed in the Uni where my son will be attending, and I love that it can display nearby parking, and petrol stations too. Shiny!

In a few weeks, my son will be going to the Uni for 2 days of training: 9 to 5pm. Good grief those are going to be long days. He asked if he could move in a week early: no go, so we considered the possibility of him staying overnight in a hotel and then catching a train home on the second day. This is way too expensive, so I’ll be taking him in the car both days, and will have to amuse myself, on my own, for 8 hours. Oh dear… Still, it’s all in a good cause. The job will be invaluable in so many ways, and they’ll pay him for the training too. After a brief period of lots of road trips, I’ll then have 13 weeks of not much travel, unless he gets desperately homesick and wants to come home for a weekend.

Here, it seems to have turned quite autumnal and I’ve had to rescue my winter duvet as I’ve been too cold to sleep. I do prefer the cooler days, and autumn can be a lovely time. It does seem early though. Over the weekend we’ve been threatened with the tail end of a storm, though being further south, we may miss it and have some better weather than the north. I certainly hope so!

Have a great weekend, take care if the storm catches up with you.
