Recently I’ve had a narrow escape, or two. The first was when I was out in the car and taking the Cabin Boy to college. I was firmly on my side of the road and travelling within the speed limit of 30 miles an hour when a huge van came at me at speed, well over the line, and I had to swerve into the hedges at the side of the road. I cursed, and braked a little, and miraculously he missed me. I must have been visibly shaken as the Cabin Boy kept asking if I was all right.
On a rare dry day I had the window open on the car and could hear a strange noise. This happened on 2 separate journeys so I had a look at my tyres to find a screw embedded in my tyre. This is the same tyre that has had a screw in it no fewer than twice before. I popped down to a local garage and they removed what appeared to be a very short screw. They checked out my tyre and found it wasn’t leaking. Phew! I thought my hard earned overtime money was going to be ‘wasted’ on a new tyre or a repair.
I had a nice day out with my sister on Saturday. We had a fantastic coffee at this little Portuguese shop that she knows, mooched around some shops, and then went to an electrical outlet to drool over cookers. They were having a clearance sale and I actually bought a new cooker! It was less than half price, and just slightly dearer than the money I’d already saved for it so I’m a happy bunny. The assistant was attentive, without being pushy which I detest. Very helpful man. It’s going to be delivered next Sunday, and then I just need to get it installed the following weekend. Ooh, only 2 more weeks of holding the oven door closed with a piece of 4x4 lol. We had a nice lunch of fish, chips, and peas though later I did have heartburn. I eat fried food so rarely now that when I do, it can sometimes make me feel a bit queasy. Maybe next time I should have something healthier.
It was a lovely day on Saturday with some sunshine and good winds. I was wishing I’d asked the Cabin Boy to put out the laundry that was left in the washing machine. When I got home, to my delight, I found that the Cabin Boy had shinned up the rigging and hung out the laundry. He’s a good lad. The laundry dried nicely, and I was able to get all the ironing done later that same day. A busy day for me!
On Monday I had some filing cabinets to go through and had to list everything that was in them. I was not happy and thought it would take me hours and was seriously considering making the GN, who’d given me the task, walk the plank. Luckily for me, the filing cabinets were mostly empty and it appears that some staff who had recently left took a load of paperwork with them. Works for me! I was soon back at my desk and getting on with my ‘real’ work.
I’m hoping this week won’t be too manic as I’m feeling under the weather and not sleeping that well. This morning my voice had all but gone again, and a member of staff asked if I was okay. How sweet. If it doesn’t clear up quickly, I’ll be back at my GP. I seem to get so many colds and sore throats lately and I’m sure this is a hangover from the virus I had nearly 2 years ago. Oh well. Enjoy your week; hope it’s a good one.

What a good deal to come home to the laundry dried. Good for the cabin boy!. I do prefer the clothes line dried when possible too.. Much to cold for that right now..
What a good deal that you found your cooker/stove unexpectedly! And if you got exactly what you wanted a couple extra dollars is worth it.. I know you'd said you hadn't been happy with what you found before this..
As to being sick again? Jeez woman that is a lot.. I do hope you take a multivitamin or at least Vitamin c and zinc everyday. You should take 500 mg C and 50 mg Zinc.. Both help fight off colds and the like.. Obviously you're susceptible, likely do to stress from your job etc. which lowers the immune system. You need all the extra fighting power you can get! Sorry, I know! I'm such a mother! Everyone tells me that!
Bad things made up by the helpful cabin boy thinking without being asked that he could help the captain with hanging the flags on the rigging.
Oh well only two weeks til the new cooker can be used.
That thing with colds etc is bad.
Summer - A screw or nail in a tyre can make a fast tick tick noise as the metal head hits the road. It's happened twice before so I knew what to listen for.
Gracie - Thanks Gracie :) I've been eating lots of fruit especially oranges so that will help. I don't this this dank, damp weather is helping one bit. So sick of winter now.
Bernie - That thought occurred to me too but the man in the garage said it was commonplace. The milkman has bought 2 new tyres in a week due to nails/screws. I'm nice to everyone so can't imagine someone would be out to get me. He is a good boy and keeps his room very clean and tidy - he hates to clean up so doesn't make a mess. I like his logic!
John - Hopefully just a cold though someone did tell me that flu is making the rounds at work. Oh joy. More oranges lol
Sparky - Love the 'disease machine' comment. Couldn't agree more! The colleagues I share an office with both have young kids, and students are germ factories too lol
A new cooker will make life a little easier Fran.
It's good to see the cabin boy is working for his passage,he'll be a deckhand soon at this rate
