The world has officially gone mad: “The Times highlights moves by students at the University of East Anglia to ban sombreros after it was decided they were offensive.” WTF?
On channel 5 on Saturday, there are 3 Christmas movies scheduled, a Christmas Special by Michael Buble, and a program called My Christmas Obsession. In October?
I enjoy a low key Christmas as much as the next person but in October? I think not! I couldn’t help but notice on Saturday that Lidl already has a load of Christmas food in such as mince pies, Panettone, German Christmas biscuits and so on. I swear it gets earlier every year and often, by the time Christmas actually comes around, I’m well and truly sick of it. As I said, madness.
Things were so much simpler years ago. Christmas madness didn’t start in October and Easter celebrations didn’t rear their head as soon as Christmas was out of the way. Mind you, summer holidays have always been advertised around about Christmas time; I guess it gives those who can afford them something to look forward to. I miss those times, and holidays… Sigh…
Things here in work are all back to normal: cigarette smoke wafting past my window when it’s clearly stated that there’s no smoking; blocked toilets; fag butts littering the paths; noise; students banging my door asking where their class is – do I look like a walking timetable? As I said; all back to normal.
So, back to sombreros. I cannot fathom in what universe they could possibly be considered offensive. Are Mexicans offended by them? As far as I know, East Anglia isn’t known to have a large Mexican population. I’ve always thought of them as a colourful head piece, nothing more. Are you offended by them?
I find it offensive that we can’t wear hoodies or a motorbike helmet in the bank, or many shops, but people of a certain religion can entirely cover their faces and be allowed in, no worries.
I find it offensive that my son was questioned on whether he had eczema by a foreign national who runs a shop near his college. He has acne, not eczema, and even if he did have eczema it’s not like it’s contagious and certainly no business of some nosy shop keeper. I told him to tell her next she asks that he has Ebola LMAO!
I find it offensive that 500,000 so called refugees have decided to invade Europe from the Middle East. Why aren’t the Mid-East countries taking them in? Why is it our problem? The latest is that some universities will be giving these refugees a free education whilst continuing to fleece the people who were born here in the UK. These UK born residents, like me, have had to incur huge student loans to get ourselves through University. I don’t understand why the refugees can’t take out loans like we have to. You don’t pay them back until you’re working, so that wouldn’t be an issue.
The government is always putting others first, always paying out millions in foreign aid, whilst in the UK the number of people reduced to using Food Banks grows each year, and there are more than 90,000 children in the UK who are homeless. Now that’s offensive!

Sombreros do not offend me and I can't understand how anyone could be offended by them, nor any other head dress for that matter unless they were being used to make fun of those that invented them.
Perhaps we could start a new fashion by always wearing Chinese Rice farmers head dress.
This political correctness thing is a farce and should be stamped out
Bernie - I heard about the uniformed man too and I was furious! My father served his country too, and to think they should be moved away so as not to offend is a step too far. If others don't like it then they should go live somewhere else.
He doesn't like taking any meds at all and is using special soap to keep on top of it, Very common for his age group and I doubt the doctor would prescribe antibiotics these days.
Thanks Micky. It's way too early. I'm totally sick of the PC brigade in the UK and elsewhere. I feel like an unwanted minority and I'm white British!
Stormlizard club has replied to Bee OrchidWe've been told in the past not to wish anyone a Happy Christmas in case it offends. I do it anyway. It's a Christian country in the main, and if they don't like my greeting they can walk away. I refuse to be told what I can and can't say in case it offends GUESTS in our country. I would not get any respect for the Christian religion in many other countries, and would have to abide by their ways and dress code, but they often don't give us the same respect back.
Bernie - Ah but we're 'all in this together' you know. The fact that I haven't had a holiday away from my home since 2009 is neither here nor there... How can someone supposedly in charge of a whole country take 7 holidays in 1 year? Beggars belief!
Summer - I often feel the same way but obviously worry what kind of world is being left for my son and his generation.
