Alfie
The late Cilla Black was the first to record "Alfie" (Burt Bacharach - Hal David). The movie is set in England and the producers wanted a British entertainer to sing the tune. After Sandie Shaw rejected it, Cilla Black had a major U.K. hit. Composer Burt Bacharach played the piano and arranged her 1966 session.
Sonny Bono produced Cher's version from the album "Cher" and it was used for the actual movie. This cover hit the top forty on Billboard. It's been said that Burt Bacharach disliked this recording.
Dionne Warwick took the song into the top twenty in 1967 when it was featured on her album "Here Where There Is Love", According to Wikipedia there were over forty versions of the tune released before it was covered by Dionne.
