Matt Monro (Terence Parsons) recorded "Born Free" (John Barry - Don Black) for the film soundtrack where it appeared over the closing credits. Co-composer Don Black was Matt Moro's manager and the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1966. Pianist Winifred Atwell was Matt's mentor and gave him his stage name.

Roger Williams' (Louis Weertz) cover was his last hit and peaked at number seven on Billboard's top one hundred, number one on the adult contemporary chart. Roger's name change to the founder of Rhode Island came from David Kapp of Kapp Records.
