The composer of American Breed's "Bend Me, Shape Me" and The Animals "Help Me Girl", Larry Weiss wrote and recorded "Rhinestone Cowboy" (Larry Weiss) for his 1974 album "Black and White Suite". This opening track single was released and peaked in the top thirty on the adult contemporary chart.

Glen Campbell's 1975 cover topped the pop and country charts and comes from the album of the same name. "Rhinestone Cowboy" was nominated for the Grammy's as Best Country Song and Record of the Year. Apparently the 1984 motion picture with Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton was inspired by the song.
