Make It Easy On Yourself
Dionne Warwick (Warrick) recorded "Make It Easy On Yourself" (Bacharach-David) for the original demo in 1962. On the strength of her demos Dionne gained a contract with Scepter records. This demo was released on her debut album "Presenting Dionne Warwick" in 1963. Years later Dionne hit the top forty with a concert version of the tune.
The first studio version of this song was by The Isley Brothers in 1962. The group and A&R Director Luther Dixon decided to change the lyric to "Are You Lonely By Yourself" was not released until forty years after it was recorded.
In 1962 Jerry Butler, original lead singer for The Impressions, recorded the Dionne Warwick arrangement and took the song into the top twenty.
The Walker Brothers (Scott Engel, John Maus and Gary Leeds) "Make It Easy On Yourself" featured Phil Spector-like production and was their first chart topper in the U.K. while it made the top twenty in the U.S in 1965.
