Composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona, was not a member of The Lecuona Cuban Boys but was the founder of the band. He would sometimes appear as the opening act for the group. They recorded "Para Vigo Me Voy" translated as "I'm Going To Vigo" (a Spanish city). This version was not issued until 1937.
"Para Vigo Me Voy" (Ernesto Lecuona - Francia Luban) was first recorded by Xavier Cugat (Francisco de Asis Javier Cugat Mingall de Bru y Deulofeu) and His Orchestra in 1935, the year it was composed.
English lyrics were provided by Al Stillman and The Andrews Sisters (LaVerne, Maxene and Patty Andrews) reached number four on Billboard in 1940 with "Say Si Si". The sisters close harmonies made them one of the most popular groups of the first half of the twentieth century.
The Mills Brothers (lead singer Donald, Herbert, Harry and John Jr.) and the Sonny Burke Orchestra cover of "Say Si Si" peaked at number twelve in 1953. This would be the last time the brothers reached that high a position on Billboard.
