Gladys Knight and the Pips (Merald Knight, William Guest and Edward Patten) released "The End Of Our Road" (Roger Penzabene - Norman Whitfield - Barrett Strong) in 1968. This reached number fifteen pop and number five R&B on Billboard. As usual The Funk Brothers supplied the instrumentation. The single became a track on the Norman Whitfield produced album "Feelin' Bluesy".

Producer Norman Whitfield was also responsible for this different version of "The End Of Our Road" for Marvin Gaye, again with The talents of The Funk Brothers. In 1970 the tune peaked at number forty on the Billboard Top One Hundred. The radio program "American Top 40" aired this as the first tune on their syndicated countdown.
