Big Joe Turner recorded "Chains Of Love" (A. Nugetre) in 1951 as written by Doc Pomus. Doc (Jerome Felder) sold the copyright to Ahmet Ertegun for $50.00. The single peaked at number two on the R&B chart. Apparently this was the first successful single for Atlantic Records.
Pat Boone issued the 1956 whitebread cover of "Chains Of Love" reaching the top ten on Billboard. Pat is has claimed to be related to Daniel Boone and Richard Boone of the Have Gun, Will Travel television series along with Randy Boone of the television shows Cimarron Strip and The Virginian. In later years Pat received a lot of undeserved criticism for recording what were originally R&B hits but the writers got more dollars and exposure deservedly came for the original artists.
