From her album "One Woman's Life" (Linda Hargrove - Dean Dillon) the late Linda Hargrove sings "Tennessee Whiskey". In the seventies she performed in blue jeans unlike many of her contemporaries who worn noticeable amounts of makeup. Linda was crowned the "Blue Jean Country Queen".
David Allan Coe recorded "Tennessee Whiskey" for the 1981 album of the same name. The single charted at number seventy-seven on the Country listing. David began writing songs while in prison with Screamin' Jay Hawkins of "I Put A Spell On You" fame.
George Jones covered "Tennessee Whiskey" on his top ten Country LP "Shine On" and peaked at number two on the Country chart. It was Frank Sinatra who called George Jones "the second best singer in America".
It took Chris Stapleton to place "Tennessee Whiskey" on the Top One Hundred at number twenty and number one Country when he recorded a more blues version on his 2015 debut album triple platinum "Traveller" which won a nomination for the Grammy Country Album of the Year". The LP topped both the County and Billboard pop charts.
